Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana May 2018: Centaurs and Minotaurs

Can I just point out that you two are arguing semantics on something that does not and--at least for the lifespan of this edition (and probably beyond)--never will exist in the game? :p

The Endless Quest books are back

Am I the only one who tried to keep track of so many options that I would occasionally run out of fingers, or forget which finger was the most recent decision point? :o

Oh cleric what are thou? When most classes can heal...

Oh, sure. But by the same token, a party with a bard and a warlock can probably do without a wizard. A party with a barbarian and a ranger can probably do without a fighter. And so forth. I think 5E just dialed the cleric's "necessity meter" back down to a good match with the others; I don't...

Oh cleric what are thou? When most classes can heal...

Clerics are still far and away the best healers. In all the 5E campaigns I've played in or seen, almost all of them have had a cleric.

I'm so sorry. Take all the time you need, and take care of yourself.

    Drow and an Archdevil previews

Has anyone said anything, one way or the other, about slaadi? It'd make sense, if we're getting more law-oriented creatures (i.e. the inevitables, who really seem, to me, to be related to the modrons in this edition), that we'd be getting more chaos-oriented ones as well. I'm still hoping for...

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

Exactly. First you stop the bleeding, then you worry about everything else. Or, in non-metaphorical terms, first you stop the harassment. Then (maybe) you start getting into the different reasons why people were harassing, and see if any of them can be salvaged. But stopping the harm is...

12 new monster images revealed from Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes!

The combination of big eye and tiny protruding wings from various spots makes me think the maruts (and presumably other inevitables) are "modron enforcers" in this edition. Or at least related to the modrons in some fashion, beyond both being creatures of law.

Pathfinder 2's Armor & A Preview of the Paladin!

I could be wrong, but I'm about 90% sure that "panels" is just a typo for "penalties."

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

It's not a label. It's a scary truth women have to live with. "Lots of men are harassers, and many aspects of our society teach them that it's okay. I do not know this man. Therefore, he is potentially a harasser." (Note that word. "Potentially." They haven't labeled you anything, they merely...

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

Not even remotely analogous. Both terrorists and victims of terrorism represent a fraction of a fraction of a percentage of any possible demographic you could name. And in most cultures, the society as a whole frowns on such things. (Plus, at least in the US, the group that people think is most...

Dungeons & Dragons has 15 Million Players in NA Alone; Storyline Is "The Da Vinci Code meets Gangs o

You can't possibly prove that without cold-calling everyone who's ever said the word "statistic."

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

Calling you a "potential harasser" isn't a personal attack. As far as she's concerned, you are. As far as she's concerned, so am I. So is any man she doesn't know well and trust. That's the entire point, and the entire problem in our hobby, and our society, that needs fixing. Like it or not...

Dungeons & Dragons has 15 Million Players in NA Alone; Storyline Is "The Da Vinci Code meets Gangs o

In fact, unless one discounts their statement that the gaming population is larger than ever before, a good portion of the players must, by definition, not be experienced with past version of the game. Also, they've already said that their research shows that streaming games have brought a...

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

Wait, now people are claiming it's not even SPF who posted in this thread? The man has a Facebook account, among other internet footprints, and he's posted some of the exact same things there, as well as actually discussing his participation in this thread. And he writes (or did write) for...

What do you miss from the D&D Next playtest?

Agreed. I didn't see the playtest sorcerer myself, but from what I've heard, it would've been more interesting than what we got. (The sorcerer is one of the few 5E classes I'm truly "meh" on.) Wasn't there something substantially different about warlocks, too?

Because personal anecdote and opinion trump data and statistics. C'mon, Morrus, you should've been briefed on that fact when you joined us over on the "Sensitive Apologists Who Foolishly Refuse to Disbelieve Everything We Hear" faction.

Dungeons & Dragons has 15 Million Players in NA Alone; Storyline Is "The Da Vinci Code meets Gangs o

Skepticism is fine in its place, but what we see on these threads every single time this topic comes up crosses the line into genuine paranoia, often paired with what comes across as a deliberate effort to piss on other people's enjoyment. It's tired and it's ugly, and worst of all--and the...

And based on my observations, the 40% mark is accurate or maybe even a little low. Hey, guess what? Neither your personal observations nor mine mean a damn thing in this case, because individual anecdotes are not data, and outliers are a thing. A common thing, even. I swear to Boccob, it's...
