    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

Which actually feels closer to the way Weapon Mastery should work by default.

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

I'm not against the idea as one of many options. I AM against it being far and away the optimised way to play a martial.

    D&D 5E (2024) NEXT UA Speculation Thread (For ~June 28th)

Monk + revised Experts. The revised Experts may each have an additional subclass, as well. Also since we know some of the Expert classes are getting weapon mastery, some (very much needed) changes to that system may show up.

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

What has really become glaring to me about the Fighter's Weapon Expert and Weapon Adept features is that they are not increases in power or capability at all, but merely in convenience. A level 13 Fighter with two properties on a weapon is not doing anything they couldn't do since level 1. They...

    D&D 5E (2024) Weapon mastery

Yeah. It's basically the "Champion" of weapon masteries. It's probably meant for those who don't want to do anything but just hit things, yet it's still painfully suboptimal at even that.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Includes 5 Classes & New Weapon Mastery System

You can do it from level 1 with the Golf Bag of Weapons (TM).

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Includes 5 Classes & New Weapon Mastery System

Weapon Mastery comes close to hitting the mark ... and then whizzes on past the target by another 400 yards. The optimal way to play any Fighter before level 7, and any other non-Fighter martial ever, will be to carry a golf bag of weapons and switch weapons with each attack for their different...

    D&D 5E (2024) Weapon mastery

Fighter gets 3 attacks at that level and can change mastery effect on each one.

D&D 5E (2024) Jeremy Crawford Gives an Overview of the New Unearthed Arcana

Welcome to the previous UA. It only happens at level 20, where, quite frankly, it makes sense for it to happen.

D&D 5E (2024) Jeremy Crawford Gives an Overview of the New Unearthed Arcana

The difference in that case is because there is no drawback whatsoever to taking the rapier or longsword over the shortsword. You literally lose nothing while gaining that +1 damage. Whereas taking a Flex weapon means you're not taking a Push, Slow, Cleave, Puncture, etc. weapon.

D&D 5E (2024) Jeremy Crawford Gives an Overview of the New Unearthed Arcana

That's a difference that round of ... 6 points of damage. With Action Surge. You're really not selling me the value of the Flex property here compared to free pushes, free slows, damage on miss, damage vs. second enemy, etc.

D&D 5E (2024) Jeremy Crawford Gives an Overview of the New Unearthed Arcana

A literally weaker version of the Dueling Fighting Style is amazing?

D&D 5E (2024) Jeremy Crawford Gives an Overview of the New Unearthed Arcana

Crawford is REALLY hyping up that +1 avg. damage over any other sword-and-board user in the game. That doesn't fill me with a whole lotta confidence about this UA.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

But still only 1 extra point of damage on average over any other sword-and-board wielder. That is just inadequate compared to push or slow every round.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

One extra point of damage on average over a standard sword-and-board wielder compares to push or slow every round, or an extra attack every round, how exactly?

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

Flex is magnitudes weaker than everything else, and of course the longsword is stuck with that. So the longsword gets done dirty yet again.

    D&D 5E (2024) Spells. What needs adjusted?

I'd go one further than that and just make saving throws universally and fully proficient. And just let the differences in ability scores between classes be the difference in saving throws. Think about it, at level 17+ (+6 proficiency) with a 10 in the stat, you still only succeed 40% of the...

D&D 5E (2024) Playtest Druid and Paladin One D&D survey is live.

I completed the survey. Marked disapproval on a lot of it. The Druid, I see the direction it's going and it could work, but it needs A LOT of work to get there. And the Paladin is just a weak version of the Cleric now.

    D&D 5E (2024) Developer Video on Druid/Paladin/Expert Feedback

Yeah, that was bewildering, to say the least. People used tiny shapes for scouting, and that's it.

    D&D 5E (2024) Developer Video on Druid/Paladin/Expert Feedback

So basically you liked the 5e PHB Ranger as it was, and that's why you hate the new Ranger. You'd at least better acknowledge that you are in the very small minority on this.
