    D&D 5E (2014) Races/Classes - Revisiting Common/Uncommon and Rare

I will be running I3 soon using 5e. For classes, I allow anything available. For races, though, I did a common/uncommon divide and players are only allowed common races: no dragonborn, no tiefling, no gnomes, no half races.

    D&D 5E (2014) Random Encounter by Terrain

Ah, you are quite correct. I glossed over that part since I don't use 'em. :)

    D&D 5E (2014) Random Encounter by Terrain

The new DMG has some, but I would custom make them for my own campaign. I've pretty much stopped doing totally random encounters, though -- I just follow the flow of the story and if it needs a little punching up, add an encounter (or if the party is running low on resources and I want to push...

D&D 5E (2014) ranger with panther companion as mount

That is a GREAT mental image!

Coverting N1 - Against The Reptile God to 5E

Wow, you are prolifc! According to the DMG, the baseline CR is an average of 3 offensive stats and 3 defensive stats (which are broken out in ranges in some cases), rounded up. Then adjustments are made to the 'effective xp' for special abilities, spell like abilities, immunuties, etc. this...

Coverting N1 - Against The Reptile God to 5E

Nice work! I have only reviewed Dorian and have noticed some discrepancies. You have his total level of 6, but no proficency bonus noted. By my calculations, Proficiency bonus +3, CR 5 Armour Class 19, CR17 Hit Points 53, CR 1/2 Attack Bonus +3, CR 2 DPR 10, CR 1 Save DC ??, CR 2?? Total CR...

    This background is excellent!

    D&D 5E (2014) O Plate Mail, Where art Thou?

My 2 cp on the matter is: if the character can afford it and find someone to make it, why not allow it?? Given its expense and (by extension) relative rarity, I would be very concerned as a player with plate from a story perspective. A small village with an evil faction, cult, or contingent...

    D&D 5E (2014) Gingerbread Heroes inspired by D&D 5th Edition

Hehe, I was thinking 'someone put their art degree to good use'. Very nice, and quite a thoughtful (and savory) gift for your group!

    D&D 5E (2014) High level characters: A one off

Well, that was an enjoyable read. As an old school DM who defected from Parhfinder to run B/X again, I am totally stoked with what I have read thus far about 5e. I have 2 groups, and will be running 5e conversions of I3 with one and T1-4 with the other. It sounds like you guys had a blast and...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you adjudicate firing through combatants?

Wow, that is amazing. :) Definitely looks inspired by 1e, which has melee rules seemingly designed to get my brain leaking out of my ears lol. Waaay too fiddly for me, however!

D&D 5E (2014) How do you adjudicate firing through combatants?

Thanks for clarifying, but in actuality, it specifically mentions CREATURE (singular).

D&D 5E (2014) How do you adjudicate firing through combatants?

I like the cleanliness of this, but would like to know where you got this from. And this. I guess I am not seeing this as firing through cover as much as a player trying to do something unique and outside the general scope of the rules and requiring adjudication.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you adjudicate firing through combatants?

That's the beautiful part of Advantage/Disadvantage. Apply disadvantage and move on. On a 1, I would probably have one of the combatants being hit with a 50% chance it's one of your allies (provided the character is shooting through his allies).

    AD&D 1E My 1e to 5e conversion guide

After a detailed cross reference between the 1e and 5e Monster Manuals and DMG's, I came up with the following conversion guide for 1e monsters. NOT AN EXACT 1:1 CONVERSION, of course, but it does get me in the ballpark quickly when converting monsters that are not officially stat'd out for 5e...

D&D 5E (2014) A helpful guide for converting older edition monsters to 5e

Sorry about the dummy OP, but the formatting is all wacky when posting a new thread on iPad on this forum for some reason. Anyway: I have been converting the classic module I3, Pharoah, to 5e and have been having issues getting the CRs set up just right. One of the reasons is, of course, the...

    OD&D 5e in a 1e/OD&D built world

Depending on the Party In Question, how experienced/skilled they are, and your own tactics as DM, you could always parse the skeletons out in waves so that instead of 12, they will be in waves of 3-6 each.

D&D 5E (2014) Monster tokens- my DM has a kickstarter

I decided to back this one; I love tokens. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
