I believe it was to give him the boost to speed and the rage, to represent when he goes a little nuts in combat. He should not have many levels in ranger, as he rarely uses spells, but as another poster suggested, the spell-less ranger could be a good fit.

As others have said, you cannot move into your buddy's space, linger for a bit and take an action, and then move, you gotta hustle right through. Also, the conga-line factor.

Yeah, one of my favourite characters (and I have only a handful, usually the DM) was a 2nd Half-Elf Bard (Rawun kit) in an Al-Qadim campaign, he was more like a vizier (and oration was his thing).
