    Withering [Effect]

The problem with using 1/20 HD is that Withering [Effect] becomes very weak for those of Greater Deity-level and below, who are going to be the ones using it most commonly since it's chain of divine abilities. Sqrt(HD) = Balanced for Greater Deities and below, overpowered for Elder Ones and...

    Withering [Effect]

Personally, I don't see any problems with setting Withering damage as the square root of your HD. It's an extremely simple calculation that can be done mentally (at least until 1000+ HD), and if you're playing using Immortals Handbook rules, you're probably going to be fairly proficient at math...

    Monster Request Thread!!!

That might be a bit hard to do. The forest was brought down by a pair of greater deity-level creatures, but not without a challenging fight. There's going to be a major "mook effect" if it's just a bunch of divine shamblers and treants, and U_K's research...

    Monster Request Thread!!!

I just read up on an interesting creature from the TYPE-MOON universe (same 'verse that O.R.T. comes from) named the "Forest of Einnashe", aka the "Disembowelling Sea of Trees". It's a mobile, sentient forest approximately 50 kilometers (31 miles) in diameter. It normally appears as a mundane...

    Withering [Effect]

Hmmm... Withering Beam does 1/8 HD ability drain, Greater Withering Beam does 1/6 HD ability drain, Superior Withering Beam does 1/4 HD ability drain, and Perfect Withering Beam does 1/2 HD ability drain. I got those values from the Challenge Rating PDF and the Epic Bestiary's section on dragon...

Immortals Handbook - Chronicle (Adventures, Campaigns Discussion)

That's an interesting word. Why "muhlatimic", exactly? For that matter, I'd like to ask U_K about the origins of the words "neotic", "adamic", and "nehaschimic" as well.

Care to explain how these agendas work, how an "elemental agenda" differs from a "spiritual agenda" for example?

Immortals Handbook - Chronicle (Adventures, Campaigns Discussion)

After rewatching the Godfather trilogy, I just thought of a weird and very off-beat organization idea: a galactic cosa nostra, a cosmic crime racket that goes from planet to planet extorting quintessence from various pantheons. It has Intermediate Deity-level footsoldiers, Greater Deity-level...

NEW Immortals Handbook - Ascension thread

The divine ability Superior Critical quadruples your threat range for any weapon that you wield, so why does it cost +9 for a quadrupling of the threat range for a single weapon? A divine ability should cost +6 at most, and the weapon ability equivalent should cost even less since it only...

Immortals Handbook - Grimoire (Artifacts, Epic Magic discussion)

Consider that an entry-level ECL 480 First One with 240d100 HD will have around 700,000-2,000,000 hp. He could purchase Automatic Metamagic Capacity x60 with his base feat progression from his HD alone, not even taking into account the Multifaceted divine ability. 1,534,008d6 bludgeoning +...

NEW Immortals Handbook - Ascension thread

I think I've come across another problem with regards to epic weapon special ability pricing. Keen (x2 crit range) is simply a duplicate of the Improved Critical feat, and as such is only worth a +1 bonus. Opening/Striking (x3 crit range) is a copy of the Greater Critical epic feat, but it costs...

Immortals Handbook - Grimoire (Artifacts, Epic Magic discussion)

    Wait, with Automatic Metamagic Capacity x60: An Empowered x30 Meteor Swarm would do a total of 1,534,008d6 bludgeoing damage (1.5^30 * 4 * 2d6) and 4,602,025d6 (1.5^30 * 4 * 6d6) fire damage. An Empowered x30 Energy Drain would inflict 383,502d4 (1.5^30 * 2d4) negative levels upon a successful...

Immortals Handbook - Grimoire (Artifacts, Epic Magic discussion)

The full name of the spell was Spacesphere: "Earth in a Pot", actually. I guess it works as a nice metaphor if you consider the demiplane to be a "pot" into which the planet goes into. So a Widened Genesis, a Widened Plane Shift, a Widened Mirage Arcana (for the illusionary moon), and another...

    Post your gods!

When designing a deity (or any character for that matter) using Ascension rules, what point-buy system should be used for ability scores, in the event that I don't want to have to roll for stats? Or alternatively, is there a "stat array" that you would recommend? Sorry for asking even though...

NEW Immortals Handbook - Ascension thread

If were using the "divine ability +6, cosmic +36, transcendental +216, omnific +1296" logic, then Unerring (the weapon ability equivalent of the transcendental ability Perfect Attack) would cost +216 instead of +25. Unerring costs much less because the ability only applies to attacks made with...

NEW Immortals Handbook - Ascension thread

The Light Eradication epic feat (25% chance of negating critical hit immunity), the Moderate Eradication divine ability (50% chance), and the Heavy Eradication cosmic ability (100% chance)... how would you price them as epic weapon special abilities? And to fill in the gap between 50% and 100%...

Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

I noticed two odd things about the way certain weapon special abilities were handled in the Epic Bestiary: 1.) The Keen weapon ability and Improved Critical feat were allowed to stack for several creatures, even though the description of Keen explicitly points out that it "doesn’t stack with...

Immortals Handbook - Grimoire (Artifacts, Epic Magic discussion)

In addition to a world-spanning Genesis and a world-spanning Plane Shift. Also, I don't really like the name "Earth in a Pot", but that was the name it was given and there's nothing I can do about it. It's supposedly named after a certain Chinese legend wherein a military officer finds a...

Immortals Handbook - Grimoire (Artifacts, Epic Magic discussion)

I need a spell level evaluation for a particular spell called "Earth in a Pot". What the spell basically did was shunt the entire Earth into a demiplane and create a massive illusion of the moon for the Earth inside said demiplane. The people on Earth could send expeditions to this fake moon...

NEW Immortals Handbook - Ascension thread

So how does combat occur in Muzaloth then? Or is it even possible to fight in Muzaloth? So an ECL 1920 Time Lord would be as big as a dot (being a dot himself), while an ECL 640 First One would only be around 1/3rd as big as a dot? I know that power doesn't scale that way with the CR/ECL/EL...
