ZEITGEIST [ZEITGEIST] Various inquiries concerning eladrin, fey, tieflings, skyseers, and technology

Would that not be a case more in favor of "remove firearms" than "remove technology in general"? Is there any case at all that could be made for the rise of technology weakening magic in the world and diminishing the accuracy of skyseeing?

ZEITGEIST [ZEITGEIST] Various inquiries concerning eladrin, fey, tieflings, skyseers, and technology

I have been engaging in a conversation via private message with the author of the Zeitgeist adventure path. I have been asked to repost this conversation in this thread for ease of reference. Q from Me: The Skyseer theme's skyseer vision says, "Ask up to three questions about possible courses...

D&D 4E [4e] Why not savor the PHB3? Major spoilers on the new races and classes.

Dragon Magazine #374 offered us our first glimpse of the Player's Handbook 3 through its playtest article covering the Wilden, a nature-themed Constitution/Wisdom race. #375 let us playtest the Centered Breath monk, a Dexterity/Wisdom-focused psionic striker/controller. #377 brought to us the...

Hollow Thrones: Variant flavor on the divine power source in Points of Light.

The day before this, I had crafted the concept below as a variant of the background of the divine power source of Dungeons & Dragons 4e, and had then submitted it for approval to a group of my associates. I have since integrated the ideas and thematic expansions of those associates into this...

Feat Tax and Why It Harms the System

I am here today to enlighten you all on what I consider to be the most reprehensible issue currently plaguing Dungeons & Dragons 4e: feat tax. It is certainly not the greatest problem of the system, but the reasons why it exists and how WotC has chosen to voluntarily ignore it are certainly...

My Batch of Homebrew Errata for the Player's Handbook

Version 5 now available, as are .txt, .docx, and .pdf versions of the homebrew.

My Batch of Homebrew Errata for the Player's Handbook

As an avid fan of D&D 4e, I have taken it upon myself to write up this large batch of homebrew errata for the Player's Handbook that addresses various balance issues of the game. Since the following only covers the Player's Handbook, it runs into a few compatibility and balance problems from...

    The Essentials articles are atrocious.

I had never stated that G/N/S was more correct than Timmy/Johnny/Spike/Melvin/Vorthos. For this matter, the former would probably be even more incorrect; it is simply that the former tends to get thrown around more as a player stereotype (even though it is meant for game design).

    D&D 3.x [4e] The Chronotyrn, Level 21 Solo Controller: Updated from 3.5.

I had spent an hour or so updating the statistics of a favorite 3.5 monster of mine, the Chronotyryn from pages 33-34 of the Fiend Folio, simply because I had found the creature to be unique and intriguing. If you would like to mesh these entities in with the planar cosmology of 4e, you could...

My take on the Tactical Warlord section of Warlord Essentials. (Now revised.)

See the opening post for a revised version.

    The Essentials articles are atrocious.

I am sorry, everyone, but Timmy/Johnny/Spike/Vorthos/Melvin does not fit into 4e at all. It's already a controversial topic for Magic players, but trying to apply it into 4e is like trying to apply the concept of rare/medium rare/medium/medium into ice cream. Categorizing player types is dumber...

    Winning Races: Halfling - Nice

They are overly powerful. They are overly powerful. This is one of the most potent magic items that WotC has ever published. This beats even Salves of Power. It is essentially a repackaged, improved, and personal version of the Glimpse the Future level 6 bard daily utility from page 10 of Arcane...

My take on the Tactical Warlord section of Warlord Essentials. (Now revised.)

Just as you can play a rogue and wield a short sword rather than a dagger, a rapier, or a double sword, you can play a warlord with a khopesh (a +2 proficiency bonus weapon). You simply shall not be as effective as a character with a better weapon. The magic item in question is not very...

My take on the Tactical Warlord section of Warlord Essentials. (Now revised.)

I believe that +2 Intelligence is marginally more vital to a Tactical Presence warlord over +2 Strength. See above for my analysis of Opening Shove. Reach weapons are just that good for a Tactical Presence warlord, though I suppose a longsword and a light shield could prove to be a barely...

My take on the Tactical Warlord section of Warlord Essentials. (Now revised.)

Most of the feats available to a Tactical Presence warlord are, to be earnest, situational chaff. While they are passable, they pale in comparison to certain essential feats, and I feel that discussing lesser alternatives would nearly double the length of each section of the article. That has...

My take on the Tactical Warlord section of Warlord Essentials. (Now revised.)

Thanks to your feedback, I have corrected the "Feats:" section of my sample article.

My take on the Tactical Warlord section of Warlord Essentials. (Now revised.)

10 base + 6 chainmail + 1 light shield = AC 17. Really, heavy armor is pointless for a Tactical Presence warlord, short of Tactician's Armor, and a light shield's +1 AC and +1 Reflex is negligible compared to the flexibility that a reach weapon is going to offer you. I believe that the feats...

My take on the Tactical Warlord section of Warlord Essentials. (Now revised.)

A day or two ago, I had decried the quality of WotC's "Essentials" articles in Dragon Magazine on a few boards (including this board, in this thread), showing that they are severely poor guides for beginners and that the suggestions and class analyses contained in them were outright imbecilic. A...

    The Essentials articles are atrocious.

You seem to be reading this under your own biased light. Allow me to quote the Handbook in question: To me, that sounds like it is bringing to notice a gem in the rough for actual avenger paragon paths.
