In a world where the quadratic wizard could exist, the quadratic wizard wouldn't...

I favour the Dragonlance idea -- Wizard guilds. In the end it always comes down money and postitions in society. Powerful wizards would enjoy a certain status and would band together to protect their wealth and positions. In our society the people at the top protect their positions (mainly)...

    Fighter design goals . L&L April 30th

Hi, I enjoy the trope (typical of many s&s novels) of the fighter shrugging off the wizard's spells and I heartily agree that the imbalance in 3/3.5e needs to be adjusted. Perhaps as the fighter increases in level his hitpoints should rise geometrically. Then basing saving throws on the amount...

    Spellcaster vs Steel

One thing that I am curious about is whether the new combat rules will provide a greater melee divide. One thing that I disliked about 3E PF and 4E is the ability of a wizard to function in close combat. I always found the concept that a wizard could stand toe-toe with a heavily armed opponent...

How would you houserule (nerf) magic at high levels.

How about an alternate take. In looking back at the older (ie:pre 3.0 editions) one thing stands out. Different classes needed different amounts of xp to advance. What if the Wizard required a lot more xp to advance in levels than other classes. My reasoning is thus, a wizard's options are...

Of the Adversarial Relationship between DM and Players, and the Need For It.

I somewhat agree with the OP, but I don't think that the game was ever dm vs player. To me it was always the world vs players. The only people in the entire world that you could rely on were your party. I think that what was lost during the "story era" is the risk and reward paradigm. Players...

    Sci-Fi/Space Opera recommendations?

Hello, I have a recommendation for an awesome SF series, with one caveat. The series that I am going to recommend has some scenes of extreme brutality, they are not explicit; however they are present, particularily in the first book. The series is The Gap into Conflict by SR Donaldson. It is a...

    BattleStar Galactica #20:Daybreak (2) Season 4--2009/Finale

Well it was a pretty good ending to the series; however rather than the planet being Earth I think that it would have been more interesting if the planet had turned out to be Kobol of the past. That would have really borne out the whole "It has all happened..." motif better methinks. As for...

    Seven Pounds (no spoilers)

My Wife and I went and saw this movie last night. We found it enjoyable, it is difficult to give any specifics about why it is a good movie without spoiling it. I will say, that it is not like the sixth-sense, you will know what "the twist" is well before the end of the movie; but that does...

    X-files 2 - anyone seen it yet?

My wife and I enjoyed it, It was a refreshing character driven story. No special effects but it has the same quality as the earlier episodes of the series. A good mystery, with a few surprises and some suspenseful scenes. I found it emininently more watchable than the first film, actually. Mark K

When did Gen. Jack O'Neil from SG-1 Join the Canadian Army?

Hi, Just curious if anyone else has seen this recruiting poster from the Canadian Forces. I may be mistaken but the soldier that is front and center looks an awful lot like Richard Dean Anderson. What do you think...

Good but obscure movies you've recently discovered...

How 'bout "The Interview", a truly wicked australian film. I've never seen a movie with so few characters, but with such a level of intensity. Highly recommend it MarkK

    Stargate SG-1 Series Finale

Hi, Personally, I'm not that worried about plot-holes unless they are so obvious that they ruin the suspension of disbelief, my problem is that the episode had absolutely no surprises and no suspense. I was hoping that this being the final episode, the writers would have something occur that...

    Stargate SG-1 Series Finale

***spoilers maybe **** Hi, Just wanted to drop in and mention that the series finale for SG-1 was on last night here in Canada, on Space. It was a fairly entertaining story, however, I found it very dated. THe concept would have made a good *typical* episode but as a...

What did you (or would you!) name your kids, and why?

Kid's names Little Lucy Grace! Born December 10th. The best gift ever for a year that has arguably been the worst ever. Lucy because it's a somewhat uncommon (these days) yet pretty name. Grace for my wife's Granma. Happy Holidays everyone. M

Rules that never made sense to you?

Hi One thing that always bugged me was if I'm stunned or paralyzed and I'm surrounded by opponents they don't get an AOA. Lotsa other things draw such an attack but not standing there slack jawed and drooling  M

    Firefly class ship on BSG

Hey, I was rewatching the BSG "mini-series" on DVD and just happened to notice that during the scene where Laura Rolin is getting her prognosis on Caprica a rather familiar spaceship is clearly visible (through the overhead windows) passing overhead. The only thing missing was the music. :D...

For Canadians - Stargate On Space

According to the SPACE channel's board's: quote Stargate SG-1, Season 10 will begin airing November 02, 2006. The plan, as always, is to run the season all the way through without a break. Not exactly sure how this will all time out, given the changes in the SciFi schedule, but it should be...
