    D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation - Moral Question

So you start a thread on morals and then handwave the creation of an evil god? While the PCs are being compensated by a high-level mage for their work (Syndra Silvane) it may in fact be in their own best interest, as adventurer's, to destroy the Soul Monger. Death comes easily to those who...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation - Moral Question

It's not about the 1% (who, by the way, are just as worthy of living as anyone else). It's about preventing the creation of a new evil god. As for eradicating liches, well good luck 'defending' the Soulmonger from a horde of liches hell-bent on destroying and/or co-opting it. I think it's...

    D&D 5E (2014) Settling a player argument with Suggestion

Yeah, I don't PVP at my table. It's a great way to destroy a game and an even better way to get the stink eye and one step from being kicked from the game by me, the DM.

    [+] Tiered damage resistance

Would this stage to other types of damage inflicted by, say, spells? This method seems to focus on melee/ranged combatants but has no effect on magic use. Is that an intentional bias?

    PHB +1

I'm not sure if they can learn spells from outside their +1 as one of the two 'native' spells they gain for going up in class level. They need to find non+1 spells in some other source such as treasure (scrolls, spell books), another wizard with the spell (per the rules for copying spells from...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you rule switching weapons?

I allow one interact a turn and dropping is free. If you want to drop your bow and draw your sword, that's fine. But sheathing your sword and picking up your bow would use the turn's interact and an Action. I'll allow any number of thrown weapons to be drawn and thrown in a round provided an...

    Distract drop invisibility?

I'll guess we'll agree to disagree, then.

    Expanding reactions in 5e

As others have said, it could work. Monsters would need access to similar reactions to even out the action economy, though.

    Distract drop invisibility?

Oh, the 'aid a friendly creature in attacking a friendly creature' part? Let me check the Invisibility spell ... 'The spell ends for a target that attacks or casts a spell.' I don't see anything about the spell ending when aiding someone in an attack. In basketball a player who assists on a...

    Distract drop invisibility?

Here's the pertinent part of the Help action per the PH... ...you can aid a friendly creature in attacking a creature within 5 feet of you. You feint, distract the target, or in some other way team up to make your ally's attack more effective. If your ally attacks the target before your next...

    Distract drop invisibility?

You are so close but not quite there. Yes! That is what YOU are doing! Using the HELP action. Good so far. Again, right on the nose! Your ALLY is making an ATTACK. Great! There is no equivalence between the two. You're HELPING. They're ATTACKING. Two different things. If your idea...

    What're your personal "signature spells"?

Misty Step has gotten a lot of my characters out of sticky messes over the years!

    Distract drop invisibility?

Yes, that's my interpretation. Is the guy throwing the sand actually doing anything mechanically that resembles an attack - damage, grappling, blinding, etc? No. It's a narrative description of how a character is using the Help action to provide Advantage to another who is making an attack.

    Distract drop invisibility?

So you agree that the 'guy helping the bully' argument is as non-sensical and hyperbolic as I take it be?

Narrating Hit Points - no actual "damage"

It's a design choice, driven in part by player input. For example, looking over 2nd Edition (it's been a while!) you naturally healed 1-3hp per day of rest with a bump for every week spent resting. Healing was assumed to be achieved magically, either via spells or items. Clerics had a lot of...

    Distract drop invisibility?

So by that logic is an invisible Cleric who is using the Healer feat on an allied Fighter who is attacking also attacking? They are assisting the fighter, after all, by making sure she can continue to attacking. Would that break the invisibility? How about the Rogue who snuck up under the...

Battle vs horde of weak monsters, how to make this fun?

Reincarnate: Good spell or best spell?

To me it can be intrusive on what the player wanted to play. Is it an interesting role-play opportunity? Sure. That works for some players who don't mind a complete turn around in their character concept. For others it's a turn off that breaks their interest in playing that PC.

Playing D&D: Homebrew or Published Setting? Why?

I'm not sure why we're seeing apparent one-or-the-other absolutism. I've run many published world campaigns. But usually I want to run my own because I have an idea about a game world that (gasp) hasn't been published before. The last one I worked on was based on a frontier town opened on the...
