    Overkill

I ran a Tier III game (CCC-QCC20176) last Saturday at the local open AL meet at my FLGS. We had over 60 people signed up to play and as expected I had no trouble filling a table. We had a great time as usual but keeping the challenge interesting at this level meant overclocking the encounters...

    D&D 5E (2014) No Bladesinger?

My feeling is that Tenser's Transformation + Bladesinging = BROKEN.

    D&D 5E Rules Quiz

Absolutely. I like the rarer examples you provided exactly because I don't see them often and will remember them better having it presented to me anecdotally over just memorizing magic item stats, etc.

    D&D 5E Rules Quiz

I got 8/10. The other ones were pretty esoteric and I'm not shy about stopping the game to look up and sort out those outliers.

    D&D 5E (2014) I don't care anymore! The Magic shope is OPEN!

You can choose to have all the magic stores you want. It's your game!

Could D&D Ever Have an eSport?

Think about all the little mistakes that are made at your table, too. Did you forget that creature's Lair Action this round? Oops, didn't roll a concentration check for each hit! Oh, yeah, Haste also provides advantage on Dex saves... Easy to handwave or rectify mistakes in a collaborative...

D&D 5E (2014) Does the caster know if a spell target makes their save?

So you're concealing the effects of a limited character resource because ... why? Let magic be magic and give casters the benefit of the doubt that they indeed have some insight on their trade. There may be cases where circumstances would make this hard to do or effectively concealed, but by...

Could D&D Ever Have an eSport?

The closest I could see would be an 'arena circuit' where you essentially take a group and put them in a hyper-combat environment like Gauntlet or something.

D&D 5E (2014) Does the caster know if a spell target makes their save?

A matter of DM discretion. I allow it because otherwise it starts a road where I conceal other most-likely-self-evident information about core abilities from other players. Do fighters really know how many HP they've inflicted? Do the players really get to know what their initiative is? etc...

Over Half Of New D&D Players Got Into Game From Watching Online Play

You mean Liam's, "Action, Action, Action, Action, uh, Action! I have advantage on that because it's my turn, right?" :p Love 'em all and it's gotten better, but Matt really has to hold their hands at times.

Over Half Of New D&D Players Got Into Game From Watching Online Play

The first time I heard of D&D it was being broadcast on Cable Access TV on a Saturday night. I've been playing ever since and that was nearly 40 years ago.

D&D 5E (2014) So, anyone else think we might be getting an Undermountain module soon?

I thought exactly the same thing. I still think it's coming. I really want an 'official' 5e megadungeon and Hallaster is just the kind of villain you need running around again.

D&D 5E (2014) The "Powergamers (Min/maxer)" vs "Alpha Gamers" vs "Role Play Gamers" vs "GM" balance mismatch "problem(s)"

A lesson I learned long ago is that you can't be afraid to kill the PCs. If they make a mistake, it's on them. When I ran games when I was younger there were two or three players who would, as I thought of it, dare me to kill them. They'd engage in outrageous risk taking without much planning...

D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's "War Magic" too strong for multiclassing?

I can see a dip into Warcaster more for RP purposes that explicit character build synergy reasons. The mysterious fighter who had once been a mighty wizard reduced by epic curse in a long-ago war. The rogue who was once the apprentice of a powerful mage but robbed him of a legendary artifact...

D&D 5E (2014) The "Powergamers (Min/maxer)" vs "Alpha Gamers" vs "Role Play Gamers" vs "GM" balance mismatch "problem(s)"

As long as players follow the rules and are fun to play with, it's all good for me. Players who continually halt smooth game play over this or that minor technicality to explain how their character's carefully-crafted advantage applies in the current situation, are annoying. If a player is...

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like there is a problem with ability score bonuses.

Look, I'd be totally psyched for a game system that captured lots of interesting nuances to how I think living in a fantasy world should work, with just enough nods to realism and epic tropes, while not stepping on either's toes. And it would be cool if that game didn't have, like, a ton of...

    D&D 5E (2014) They Broke Arcane Archer!!!

This like complaining that Blizzard hasn't released a patch for your favorite character in Overwatch. But then finding out they totally already did that. Then spending the rest of your day complaining about what a bunch of ne'er do well's they are for not getting it right in the first place...

    Death Curse Surrogates

The Paladin should not of suffered Instant Death. INSTANT DEATH Massive damage can kill you instantly. When damage reduces you to 0 hit points and there is damage remaining, you die if the remaining damage equals or exceeds your hit point maximum. Paladin was at 21hp and took 49pts of damage...

D&D 5E (2014) Wall of Force and Mind Blast

This 'clear window blocks effects'-thing has got to be one of the dumbest things I've seen in D&D. Magic can move mountains but can't penetrate an 1/8" of glass?
