    Utility of Wizard "dip."

Pretty circumstantial benefits for the expenditure of a level, IMHO. Really depends on your game and character concept. Since it's a magic-light group, could work out okay - at least you know who would get the wizard-only items!

    Dips, builds and patience!

My only gripe about playing low level is that I'm sick of fighting GOBLINS! God, the hours I've spent stomping those little cusses.

Adventure running: when the PCs skip a step, what to do?

Any clerics there that can receive a divine vision while they rest? Make it nice and abstract, enough so they know they're missing something and a little about the nature of its' location.

    Dips, builds and patience!

All my MC builds are usually pretty fun to play all along the spectrum as they level. But that's because playing D&D is FUN! :) As for waiting forever. We're going on 4 years of 5e. In that time I now have 3 19th level, one 16th level, one 15th level and several below 10th level. So I've...

    D&D 5E (2014) Best archer build?

So some elements that make a good archer are... - Supporting Feats: Sharpshooter being the most important by adding damage and negating range/cover penalties. Crossbow Expert follows if you're into crossbows. Elven Accuracy is niche but could be helpful if you're shooting a lot with...
  6. Warmaster Horus

Anyone else tired of the miserly begrudging Rogue design of 5E?

I think this is an important point. The Rogue provides excellent play possibilities beyond DPR Monster for many, many players. To infer that the class is 'broken' based on that one criteria lacks insight into how the player base utilizes and enjoys the class.

    RFC: Iconic D&D Cities

    Lake Geneva & ... Tulsa?
  8. Warmaster Horus

Can I take a second bonus action in place of my action during a round?

By RAW, no. I like it this way as it makes your special abilities take a little bit to truly spin up.
  9. Warmaster Horus

    The Derp Snake

    Ahhh, a little P-Funk D-Snake. Love it!
  10. Warmaster Horus

    Weird spell combos

Hex + Maze: Hex vs Int Checks (no save) and Maze (no save) with Disadvantage on Int Checks to return due to Hex. Simulacrum + True Polymorph: You always wanted to have an alter ego Planetar, didn't you?

D&D 5E (2014) As a DM what spell / ability do you find most annoying?

But that's what it does and has for years (sacred cow). If this bothers you just add more fodder and the caster will eventually run out of spell slots.
  12. Warmaster Horus

    Polymorph and spirits/incorporeal creatures

Not sure why not, unless they are a shapechanger.
  13. Warmaster Horus

D&D 5E (2014) Dealing with stupidly high rolls.

There's a difference between having line of sight and having cover to hide behind. When I mention direct line of sight it assumes no intervening piece of cover. This does not mean that the hider need be completely obscured and can indeed observe those it is hiding from while still maintaining...

    AI Creates New D&D Monsters

Depends on the imbalance. If a balanced system provided outcomes that were too predictable or conformal, you would have a system more akin to a board game than an RPG. RPGs are purposely subjective and messy as they need to represent outcomes in a world full of strange, interacting variables...

    AI Creates New D&D Monsters

And yet that is one of the things that makes RPGing a distinctly human past time. I don't think I want some vat-grown, antiseptic AI rule set with a bizarre, non-organic, uncanny valley feel to its' structure. I'll take human faults and predilections over code spawned 'perfection' any day.
  16. Warmaster Horus

D&D 5E (2014) Dealing with stupidly high rolls.

He's a ranged rogue so it puts him in a good spot to provide fire support while watching the rear of the group.
  17. Warmaster Horus

    AI Creates New D&D Monsters

I have players who are consistently bitten by the Derp Snake.
  18. Warmaster Horus

    Game time in combat?

Combat is a big part of my game, so I'd say 40-50%. Right now exploration is taking up the other part since the party is in the ToA.
  19. Warmaster Horus

D&D 5E (2014) Dealing with stupidly high rolls.

So that's a problem but the Warlock sending their Imp or the Druid turning into a rat and doing the same thing aren't? I think the party decides how they want to do it. With my rogue I like to be out front scouting because of his Stupidly High Stealth™ but if the party doesn't like that I do...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Case for Inspiration

I try to award Inspiration at least once per session. It's not really something players strive to get, though. It's a nice incentive but players aren't putting extra effort into playing the characters to get it. On the topic, this week when I started the game I challenged my players to answer...
