D&D 5E (2014) Critical hit allows called shot?

If I implemented this I would have it run in both directions, with crits having extraordinary effects on PCs as well as monsters. In any case there are plenty of opportunities to put various types of conditions on monsters without broadening the Critical mechanic. I can see in some cases you...

D&D 5E (2014) Dealing with stupidly high rolls.

I have no problem with it. In my stealth model a direct line of sight breaks the ability to hide (ie, you can't hide in the open) so it matters not if there's a stupidly high Stealth roll if there's nothing to hide behind. If there is something to hide behind and the character is just that...

Anyone else tired of the miserly begrudging Rogue design of 5E?

I still don't get the basic premise that the Rogue has to be on equal DPR footing with dedicated fighting classes. They already get such a full package - Cunning Action, Expertise, lots more skills, great defensive abilities in Uncanny Dodge & Evasion, a decent-scaling Sneak Attack, auto-crits...

    DM Shortage?

Not enough from the perspective that we seem to have enough BUT there isn't a large influx of new DMs appearing to allow current DMs a break. I'd also say that the number of GOOD DMs is lacking. There are plenty of people who can run a game but significantly fewer that can run a memorable game.

D&D 5E (2014) As a DM what spell / ability do you find most annoying?

Nondetection works well against Weapons of Warning.

Houserule for using the Help Action on saving throws

That's the kind of thing I'd veer away from. In my mind Alice would need to make some sort of check, Persuasion or Insight or the like, at the Dragon's fear DC to even be eligible to do this. Probably to keep it from being completely out of the question, Alice would need to be adjacent to Bob...

Houserule for using the Help Action on saving throws

Allowing the use of the Help action to allow Advantage on a saving throw would be an edge case for me. It would have to make sense for the given situation and actually be achievable by the Helper. Definitely NOT something that would be a norm at my table but could be possible on occasion when...

What are the DM's obligations of disclosure for sensitive game material? What is "sensitive" game material?

I'm not sure how either of those issues is a 'walk away' condition. You don't need to succeed at everything. Your dad can set the boundary on their character that they will not sell their soul. It doesn't matter if the DM has an NPC make the offer, the character can decline even if the end...

    Last ASI for ranged fighter

That's not a 100% certainty. I've seen some players take Xbow Xpert just to get rid of the melee use penalty for ranged weapons.

D&D 5E (2014) As a DM what spell / ability do you find most annoying?

I can understand some of these - the ones that involve making the environment more challenging from a lighting, supplies and resting perspective. Heat Metal, I suppose based on common complaints. But the others are a bit mystifying. Why are these spells not allowed in your games? In my...

D&D 5E (2014) As a DM what spell / ability do you find most annoying?

I've got one of those cheesy SS characters and I love it when a DM sends something scary after them. I remember this one time, my archer got stuck fighting three bodaks on a ceiling in magical darkness. Took a little finesse to get free of that mess, I tells ya! :)

    Last ASI for ranged fighter

Oh, forgot you couldn't take Resilient multiple times. Okay, I settle on Luck, then!

D&D 5E (2014) As a DM what spell / ability do you find most annoying?

True dat. I've got two Monk PCs. But as a DM, Stunning Strike can deflate a combat like nothing else.

D&D 5E (2014) As a DM what spell / ability do you find most annoying?

They're annoying but doesn't the DM have the choice of what appears?

D&D 5E (2014) As a DM what spell / ability do you find most annoying?

God, I despise STUNNING STRIKE. It's about the only thing I find truly broken in 5e.

    Last ASI for ranged fighter

Lucky or Resilience (Wisdom). Lucky is always a nice fallback for bad situations. Resilience (Wisdom) keeps you going against things like Dragon fear and nasty control effects at high level. My ranged warrior has both of those.

What are the DM's obligations of disclosure for sensitive game material? What is "sensitive" game material?

As a DM I'll self-censor for situations that would be iffy for a PG movie. Otherwise I'm not censoring unless someone specifically mentions something to me. I'm not a guardian for someone else's feelings and people participating in a game should understand that it might contain such references.

Guidance Cleric cantrip is really dumb

I don't get bent out of shape about it. There are some instances where I won't allow it ("You're too far away to cast it on them in the time they said they were doing the check", etc). Since it has a V/S component it might make some social or stealth checks more nuanced because there's an...
