D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone who got an mm at Gencon want to offer up spoilers to us?

"No" on demons, and a conditional "no" on anything else. I don't see it in a flip through, but that doesn't mean there isn't one or two hiding. I checked pixies (nothing), hags (night hag need magic/silver), and a few other places. I haven't seen any cold iron. Thaumaturge.

D&D 5E (2014) I for one hope we don't get "clarification" on many things.

My point was the quibble. Your point is valid. :p And, no, I'd no rather discuss chess than I would monopoly online. The creative variability of D&D is the attractive part. Thaumaturge.

D&D 5E (2014) Help me find the next campaign/adventure for my group

I'm currently running a conversion of Ruins of Undermountain. There are some adventures in the box that make it more than just a dungeon crawl. A lot of the more story based 2e adventures seem to be for lower levels. A note on conversion from 2e: I'm playing it really easy. If a room says there...

Apparently, some people. Who knew? :D Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) Unlimited Reactions

I think it'll slow combat down just a touch. And you're right characters with reaction defenses will be tougher to hit, if they burn through those resources faster. So if you have a party with a lot of wizards with shield and fighters with parry, you may have some workday issues. Or not. I'm...

D&D 5E (2014) I for one hope we don't get "clarification" on many things.

I think one of the issues for the last couple of editions is that WotC thought Organized Play either was the norm or should be. Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) HOTDQ backgrounds

With my group, just about everyone rolled on the custom bond table first, and they picked/modified backgrounds to fit the bond they rolled. One guy rolled the "You have a secret" bond, and he built his whole character around that idea. One recommendation I have is to not let people double up on...

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone who got an mm at Gencon want to offer up spoilers to us?

I don't know how much of this is new. They are, in fact crazy spawning frog monsters. They originate from a Spawning Stone the modron Primus cast into Limbo. As such, they hate modrons and will attack them on sight. And they've still got the ability to lay eggs in your chest. Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) Missing Backgrounds

Refluff the Outlander trait to be about underground passages? Never getting lost, able to memorize locales, and able to find food and water. Or he's more skilled at oil useage. Oil, and torches, last 1.5 times as long if a miner is tending them. Two others: Coal Lung: Your character dies at...

    D&D 5E (2014) Druid Flavor Help

You're making druid, so be sure to use organic, pastured, raw, non-homogenized buttermilk. :erm: HE'S NOT A RACOON! Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) Druid Flavor Help

Easy. Take produce flame as your other cantrip. Describe those attacks as you shooting fire from your crossbow. You could even yell "Blam! Murdered you" each time you shot, if you were so inclined. Thaumaturge.

    D&D 5E (2014) Druid Flavor Help

Carry a small potted oak. Name the oak "Troot". In combat, cast shillelagh. Describe your attack as Troot growing and punching your opponents while you hold the pot. You should probably have him say a catch phrase. Also, you should be a gnome. But a really, really hairy one. With a long nose...

D&D 5E (2014) Slow Rests: Anyone Tried It?

Don't be too hard on yourself. I only thought of it because I'm running a 5e conversion of the original Ruins of Undermountain, so turns are very much on my mind. It can get confusing upon occasion, but, like most things, context makes the meaning clear more often than not. If a player says...

D&D 5E (2014) Slow Rests: Anyone Tried It?

If you're looking in that direction, just make short rests 10 minutes. And then call all of your 10 minute blocks "turns". Thaumaturge.

Mixing tabletop and remote players in a game

I do this about half of the year, because one of my players is a snowbird. We set up an iPad (laptop, or even a smartphone, would work) at one end of the table and go. It's not perfect, but he gets to see and hear a lot of the experience. My suggestion would be to use Google Hangouts instead of...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls Interview with the Escapist

My 5e tables have been some of my sneakiest tables, ever. With group checks, at least half the party is able to sneak past goblins (Passive Perception 9) fairly easily. Thaumaturge.

D&D 5E (2014) I think we can safely say that 5E is a success, but will it lead to a new Golden Era?

And since I've gone ahead and jumped in. This might provide the reports mentioned. Thaumaturge.

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls Interview with the Escapist

If you're the DM, couldn't you see the number of HP rolled, compare it to the Ogre's HP, shrug and say it worked? Heck, why even roll at all? Just assume that sleep as written is its combat application. If the target doesn't "have his blood up", the spell is significantly more effective (double...
