D&D 5E (2024) How should the Warlord be implemented in 1DnD?

I think we all know the class is based on inspiration or tactical advice. Anything further is an individuals add either to be "that player" or just one of the many arguments that are a tad short of honest ie just as valid as the it's magic line.

D&D 5E (2024) How should the Warlord be implemented in 1DnD?

The influence of the SSS (Society for Spellcasting Supremacy) is pervasive.

D&D 5E (2024) How should the Warlord be implemented in 1DnD?

I would guess that it would be an Expert class not a warrior class. An Expert of combat not at combat if that makes sense.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

Reduce hp for monsters across the board and give more interesting abilities and attacks.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

If monsters were designed better and not just bags of hp, then Fighters (any class actually) could afford to surrender some damage for control when the situation suited. Unfortunately sacrificing damage currently achieves little more than making the battle take up more game time without the...

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

One thing learned from D&DNext that should be kept in mind when designing weapon properties, mastery properties, maneuvers or anything similar is that Fighter control tends to be soft control thus if you offer control or damage more often than not players would opt for damage. This means that...

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

We realize that this is a playtest, but when what is offered shows that little seems to of been learned in the last 50 years of Fighter design. That the designers dress +1 damage as something worthwhile or offer up mechanics that are obviously better on other classes in a way so painfully...

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

Call me crazy but I think that Nick is more designed for Rangers and Rogues. I bet there is an easy way for them to access it ie feat or 1 level dip, if not outright giving them access. Fighter design has a history of letting other classes steal its lunch. What exactly does the Fighter get out...

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

The fact that the designers thought Fiighter players would accept flex ie +1 damage says a lot about what the designers think about Fighter players. No wander they believe the Fighter should be the "simple " class.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

Should Fighting Styles for martial characters be expanded on what is gained from them. Let your Paladins and Rangers get a basic access to what a style offers but a martial class gets several benefits, maybe level gated?

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

Also something that has not been discussed in this thread how would a weapon master leverage their mastery of a weapon against a monster, not just another humanoid weapon user.

I would also like to see Mastery with a particular weapon to open up choices not just one token extra.

It seems to come across as a token effort. Weapon mastery should be so much more interesting than this.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

Yes its just me, only I want this. Everyone else is happy with the status quo and no effort ever has been put in that has held the Fighter back and it is all in my sad head. The people that have agreed with me in this conversation are all purely from my imagination.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

The Flex mastery ability when all is said and done is +1 damage. As I noted with Nick, that Fighters don't often use their bonus action so it is also lacking. If this is the best ideas the designers involved can come up with, then I think the first answer to Fighter improvement is new designers...

This line is not only incorrect but also overused.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

Purely from a meta perspective given that the designers only know how to design monsters that are bags of hp, DoaM would help the game move more fluidly.
