D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

It seems that so many people have one or more somethings that are a step too far, that it has caused the Fighter to go nowhere for decades at a time, a problem other classes do not have. If the Fighter is to improve and grow as a class unfortunately some peoples a step too far will need to be...

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

It would seem several layers of the Nine Hells have frozen over, maybe we will find a way to agree to some other things.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

I love how some people are so lacking in imagination that they can't accept how DoaM would be a weapon thing yet can hypocritically pretend that taking 20 odd arrow "hits" to kill someone is somehow acceptable. What some people are willing to accept makes many of their arguments worthless.

As I said on page 22: Fighter Lv1 the laws of reality are what they are. Fighter Lv6 the laws of reality are guidelines. Fighter Lv11 the laws of reality are merely suggestions. Fighter Lv16 the laws of reality are someone else's problem.

That example would put legendary and mythical figure further beyond 21 if you put a skilled sportsman at 21. Most of us want legendary and mythical warrior between 11 - 20.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

Currently we have a Fighter class that sacrifices all other areas of the game to keep up in combat. Even then in single target range or melee, trying to do both will give you reduced results and don't even bother trying to do more that basic hp damage.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

My greatest fear at this point is another 10-20 years of Fighters being less than they should be due to a consistent crowd of people lacking imagination or wanting the Fighter to suck.

Something I would have liked to of seen is something like: Bleeding: If hit target AC by greater than say 5 (pulling a number out of my hind end) Ongoing damage at beginning of targets turn equal to attack stat mod till either target or an ally spends an action and succeeds on a DC10 (Wisdom)...

Some people just want Fighters to suck. By placing MJ tat high, that is what you are saying.

Did I mention spells in my descriptions? There were magic users that did not use spells in my ideas.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

The Barbarian could be made simple. A magic user that shoots magic bolts and a couple of times a day an aoe. A cleric that does basic attack or a ranged holy beam + heal so many HP per day. There are many ways to do simple classes, there is no reason for the fighter to bare that burden alone...

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

I believe higher the level the further away from normal and sensible you can go with a martial class. Almost like over time reality puts less and less effort into containing you.

It is not just about Damage on a miss, it is about the resistance put forward when Fighters get improvements.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

Previous generations had access to many mythical warriors that carried out feats of insane effect. They had heroes from Various holy texts, Greek mythology, Norse mythology and sagas and so on. I still think it is more of a personal short sightedness than media availability. I mean in most cases...

You can miss with a graze weapon, it just takes more effort, stamina, luck, or some other intangible to avoid the attack this cost for the miss is a smaller reduction in HP.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

My above thoughts lead me to a question, why has so much effort over the last half century been put into stopping Fighter improvements? Subconscious revenge against jocks? The need for magic to be more powerful? A blind focus on the everyman, thus ignoring the legendary and mythical?

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

Grogs and members of the SSS* have spent the last 50 years making sure Fighters cannot have nice thing. This time given their diminishing numbers and the reduced pull they have it looks like hopefully they will just have to take this lump. During the D&DNext playtest they threatened to walk if...

    D&D 5E (2024) How did I miss this about the Half races/ancestries

Simplicity for its own sake is bad as being too complex. Simplicity must be tied to a goal to be of value.
