I imagine the designers in an attempt to not upset people would take out what makes Dark Sun what it is, like how they took the horror out of Ravenloft.

Whilst sounding good ignoring poison resistance it is largely worthless as creatures usually are immune to poison not resistant. You would thing that WoTC designers would know this.
