D&D 5E (2014) WotC Ranger: Drakewarden released at D&D Celebration

I was curious whether this debate came up way back when the subclass was first released as UA so I did a quick search and found this old thread from back then. Interesting read for sure, and a lot of the thoughts people had then align with the changes Wizards actually made to the final subclass...

D&D 5E (2014) WotC Ranger: Drakewarden released at D&D Celebration

I don't think this would work? Beast of Burden just means that the creature is considered Large for the purposes of carrying capacity. Weight isn't the reason why a Medium creature can't ride another Medium creature.

D&D 5E (2014) WotC Ranger: Drakewarden released at D&D Celebration

I'm curious what the designers would say about this if approached with this situation. I imagine this is not what they intended with this, and I agree that this is just strangely written. I'd actually go with not having the drake sprout their wings until they reach the level where their Ash can...

D&D 5E (2014) WotC Ranger: Drakewarden released at D&D Celebration

In which case it becomes much harder to argue that it's still balanced, and the concept becomes much less interesting. I personally like hatching a Charmander and then evolving it into a Charizard as I explore the Kanto region. It wouldn't be as interesting if the final evolution came much...

D&D 5E (2014) WotC Ranger: Drakewarden released at D&D Celebration

Actually rereading the subclass I’m seeing that others wouldn’t be able to ride around on it like a flying carpet since they’d still be too big until 15th level, but the concept of you being able to ride a Medium creature is even weirder to me. I definitely wouldn’t go with a flying mount until...

D&D 5E (2014) WotC Ranger: Drakewarden released at D&D Celebration

That seems a bit early to me. If you wildshape into a flying creature you’re kinda stuck doing just the stuff that creature can do. On the other hand, if you’re riding on the back of your cool dragon buddy your dragon buddy can do a bunch of stuff while flying around and you also get to do a...

D&D 5E (2014) WotC Ranger: Drakewarden released at D&D Celebration

What about the angle of the party now having a steed that realistically anybody in the party could mount and ride since it's trained and it's friendly? Maybe they felt that was too much of a boon earlier in the game? If your fairy or aarakocra character can fly, that's just them. It's never...

D&D 5E (2014) WotC Ranger: Drakewarden released at D&D Celebration

I'm more referring to that this is a class feature that's meant to apply broadly across any race. The suggestions have been to set up the class such that if you happen to pick a small race, you'll effectively have a whole other feature from this class that a character with a medium sized race...

D&D 5E (2014) WotC Ranger: Drakewarden released at D&D Celebration

I've seen comments in the past around how they're adverse to things that might disadvantage characters of a certain size over others (for instance not allowing for a large playable race) so maybe that's the long and short of it here -- if it's not racial and instead class-based, then having a...

D&D General WizKids 7” WarDuke action figure!

Hot damn! Unless this is an exorbitantly expensive figure, it's a must buy for me. Warduke is hands down my favorite Dungeons & Dragons character of all time. I'm blown away!

D&D 5E (2014) Fizban's Treasury Dragons Ranked By Challenge Rating

Ah! Interesting. I would never have guessed that since a moonstone is, well, a gemstone. :) Although I guess it makes sense since the others are aligned with the gem dragons from 2nd edition.

D&D 5E (2014) Do WBW and VGR rules on racial spells apply retroactively to PHB races?

These rules do not apply to any other race/lineage option in the game. If you're the DM, you can house rule that however you want. If you're a player who wants to use them on a different race/lineage, ask your DM if they can house rule that. :)

Level Up (A5E) Level Up Is Coming! Spread The Word!

While I'm not likely to use the player options as intended -- my players and I quite like 5E as is for the most part -- there are some interesting ideas in the playtest documents and the monster stuff sounds pretty cool so I'm definitely in on a Kickstarter... plus it's one of those worthwhile...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond No Longer Supporting Unearthed Arcana

You're definitely right about that. While Critical Role is the definitive gateway drug, not even close to everyone is watching it. But most of the people you're referring to aren't pumping out homebrew classes, which is what I'm entirely focused on here. :) Homebrewing something is uber common...

Rules FAQ How Does Counterspell Work in D&D 5E?

The designers have confirmed that you can counterspell a spell that is cast with a magic item, so I'm wondering if there are magic items that still require you to utilize components when casting spells through them. In any case, I rule that despite not having an explicit material/somatic...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond No Longer Supporting Unearthed Arcana

That's just the JSON dump you can get if you know how to construct the appropriate URLs for the API endpoints. It's how third-party developers are able to build tools around the D&D Beyond content, e.g. the Beyond 20 extension. I looked at the completely wrong thing there. LOL. My bad.
