    Saving the Bard

Sounds like you made a well rounded person. He sounds like the kind of guy who is pragmatic and would argue he is a fighter, a bard or maybe a wizard in whatever the situation called for.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

I like the concept (to be honest it sounds like a warlord subclass) but I disagree with the execution of reskinning the Diviner portent feature, it feels more on the supernatural side. Also it is kind of odd that once the feature is used does the character just stop being inspiring; I would...

    Saving the Bard

Oh no sorry, some people were saying that the party having a face was an issue and I was just pointing out that some players will just fall into that role. Then I went on a bit of a tangent considering the different styles of talkers you may have; I personally would make a poor bard but seen...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

That would possibly be the more balanced version, oddly enough sentinel feat can still be used and opportunity attack still open for use

    Saving the Bard

To be honest some players are just made to be the face of the party and have a higher wit and charisma themselves that make them ideal for such classes with superior skills sets. Also the class tends to determine the style of face you play. If I intend to become a more of a social character I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

Extra reactions seem perfect honestly. The indomitable feature is a bit lacklustre, personally I would have made it so it could be used 3 times from the start or make it so it can be used after a short rest instead of long rest.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

I'll send a message when I get to use it or one of my players, might be a few weeks but I know I'll be a fighter in next campaign

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

Off the top of my head I would have a sub occupation as a feature which be more in line with your thinking such as sentry which read along the lines of this "Night sentry After years of working the night shift, your body has adopted to the unsocial hours you were required to complete your...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

Lol yeah the great weapon fighter style is pretty awful and only handy with a greatsword, I would possibly increase the range to reroll on 4 or lower and you have to take the lower result. The great sword might not risk losing a 4 on a dice whilst any other 2 handed weapon may be more inclined...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

Yeah I really like those updates I would run them in my campaigns. The only 2 I have an issue is the great weapon fighting and potentially tactical as I can see that being a bit too optimal for some builds; tactical probably wouldn't be picked by a few fighters but eldritch knight would probably...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

It would have been quite nice if all fighters automatically got expertise in athletics specifically as a starting proficiency bonus (not included if multiclassed into the fighter). It would also have been nice if they added more opportunities to get a fighting style with a wider range of choice...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

Touche, I was going more with the angle that it shouldn't be dismissed as viable option but yes it is not typically picked up by other players from what I have seen.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

I feel differently, I love putting expertise into athletics and will happily forsake one attack once I get the extra attack feature to knock a npc prone allowing other characters such as rogue to get advantage and therefore sneak attack. There's been a number of times the advantage has gave me a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

2nd edition Pathfinder did a fantastic fighter in my opinion, opportunity attack being a fighter specific feature adds a lot and the range of triggers made it more likely to occur. Also being trained as expert (+4) with weapons compared to everyone else being trained (+2) is so great, especially...

Emotional Spillover – Handling Real Emotions in an Unreal Situation, Part 1

@Celebrim Yup you are correct, it was quite unintentional on my part but I think there are only so many characters in you and they all have a bit of yourself in. I understood he was the part of me that had big aspirations but was trying to become something he was not destined/ designed for. He...

    RPG Evolution: When Gaming Bleeds

@Hussar Its enough examples to show that if thats what you focus on when your argument is broken down to such an extent and thats what you come away with, then there is literally no discussion left to be had. To prevent any further bad feelings I will be removing myself from this thread.

Emotional Spillover – Handling Real Emotions in an Unreal Situation, Part 1

Read it all. I actually had one character named Lukas Greenwood, a half elf monster hunter (fighter with the unearthed arcana pdf). I typically play a goofball but wanted to try something more serious. Lukas had always wanted to be a paladin but was never chosen or oath never accepted so he...

    Saving the Bard

@DMMike From a combat perspective if we are talking about the 5e bard they are still useful in combat with a mix of buffs/ heals/ utility or if you go lore stealing higher level damage spells from other classes. Mechanically there is the help action to give the front line advantage OR my...

    RPG Evolution: When Gaming Bleeds

Okay you see we have something to work with here, I have put comments in bold and a number to make it easier to bounce between points. 1.) You have told us what makes you uncomfortable, essentially your bleed. The group seem to not have an issue with it (I too find romance at the table...

    Saving the Bard

@pemerton I am not sure if the player would give a damn about a random persons opinion from a forum but let that bard know I think that was some fantastic RP. A bard would care more about recounting a fantastic tale so he played his part by arousing everyone watching which would in turn light...
