WotC needs to read up on some Techdirt

It's actually called copyright infringement or, casually, illegal copying. It has nothing whatsoever to do with human rights. It exists to protect producers and distributors, nothing more. Trying to make it into a gross violation of human rights is utterly ridiculous. Copying and sharing is a...

The 4e Distribution Model has Failed...

I don't doubt for a moment that this was the real (and only) reason behind the change. But people using illegal copies are not your customers and when you let your business strategy be dictated by your non-customers instead of your customers, you have a serious problem.

WotC, really? No...really? You can't maintain a publishing schedule?

It's really sad if those are the only two options available from WotC.

The 4e Distribution Model has Failed...

The really crazy thing is that you can get a .NET application to run just fine under Mono on both Mac OSX and Linux. So they didn't really gain anything on the compatibility front. Double-fail.

    Increased Healing Surge value

I think you're right about that. More effective healing surges (across the board) would just narrow the variations that exist in healing. Two surges would take you from dying to fully healed. Maybe just changing Second Wind? Most players seem very reluctant to use it (unless they are dwarves)...

Ampersand to reveal mystery of the disappearing books (apparently)

No, they might need my ongoing subscription to keep their company alive. But I don't really care if their company lives or dies. The hobby will survive either way. I only care if I get value for the money I spend. So I choose to let my subscription expire.

    Increased Healing Surge value

So you don't think there's a sweet middle road between super easy and super swingy? It might be. I'm just trying to figure out exactly how the style of play would change.

    PITA hybrid defender concept

I'm personally playing a 10th level (soon to be 11th level) gnome hybrid assault swordmage/feypact warlock multiclass bard. He certainly fulfils the "PITA" part of the concept. And there was much rejoicing. ;)

    Increased Healing Surge value

Ah, but I was thinking along the line of raising the value of any Healing Surge to your Bloodied value, not just your Second Wind.

    Increased Healing Surge value

Skimming through the Gamma World rules, I noticed that they did away with Healing Surges and your Second Wind now heals your Bloodied value. That got me thinking... What if a Healing Surge in 4E healed your Bloodied value instead of only half that? How would that shake up how the game plays...

    Essentials (Comments)

That would make no sense at all. The kinetic energy at impact is proportional to the distance fallen (discounting air drag). A linear function is both simple and reasonable.

D&D 4E 4E is too balanced - options to replace all martial dailies?

Only if you look at it from a deterministic and mechanistic view. You assume that the probability has an exact and measureable value beforehand. I see it more like a quantum waveform. Only when observed does it collapse into something measurable. Like the quantum waveform, that probability...

D&D 4E 4E is too balanced - options to replace all martial dailies?

I don't understand why random circumstance makes no sense. I think we both feel that a daily martial power could be a manuever that requires very special circumstances. Your fighter character is trying to create them with his every move, but he needs luck on his side to get that perfect opening...

D&D 4E 4E is too balanced - options to replace all martial dailies?

Exactly my point. They make their own luck. You misunderstood (I think), I wasn't saying they could override that random chance. I was trying to say that they can control they moment that random chance works their way. Make their own luck, as you put it. I'm aware that the statistical model...

D&D 4E 4E is too balanced - options to replace all martial dailies?

Why not? The opening that needs to occur before you can use that maneuver is just even more rare. So rare that it only seems to happen once per day. I've had similar discussions about these aspects of 4E with a lot of my old-timer friends. So I'll ask you the same question. Image that all...

The biggest issue with the new Character Builder:

This is simply, in my experience, untrue. I think you are confusing Agile methods with that ninties fad called Rapid Application Development. Agile is actually much more suited for a system in heavy flux than a more traditional Water Fall method.

    New CB printing madness

Well, I don't think the 3 year old decision was stupid in itself. There was nothing wrong with building the original CB in .NET/WPF. What made it a stupid decision was creating a new CB in Silverlight instead of supporting and updating the current version. I think Silverlight is cool, but it...

Interpreting Cunning Stalker Feat from HotFK

That wording would allow only ranged. "Other than you" was included to allow melee. Maybe they intended to disallow ranged, but that wording doesn't do that.
