    Online Character Builder is LIVE!

Same here... after the third attempt it just hangs completely. As a professional developer I'd be embarrased to let something like this go live. Version 0.1 indeed...

Doing the Monster Math for the original MM

Isn't level+3 the target number for attacks vs NAD? That would give her +10, but you put her at +11.

    New Character Builder from WotC!

If I was creating this tool, I would cache your character portraits in your local cache (the same way those 2.8 MB of graphics and javascript from the D&D homepage gets cached). Using local caching wisely is a great way to reduce bandwidth requirements. So, again, I don't think bandwidth is the...

    New Character Builder from WotC!

The issue of storage space was suggested as a reason for the 20 character limitation. My point was that is not a very likely reason. Wasn't that fairly obvious? Of course there could be other considerations. My point was that there must be, since storage space alone makes no sense. I would...

    New Character Builder from WotC!

Bandwidth? Of course it wouldn't download all the data for 1000 characters every time you started the CB. Does Word open all your documents on your hard drive every time you start it? CB would only need to download a small fraction of the data - enough to let you choose which character to open...

    New Character Builder from WotC!

Just as a thought experiment, I zipped one of my characters and checked the file size... 20 kB. So 50000 subscribers saving 1000 characters each would fit into 1 TB. I would assume WotC could afford a few terabytes of storage...

    D&D 4E 4e stealth issues

If you're in combat, you better be. Trust me, you will lose a fight against multiple opponents very fast of you don't scan all directions around you. Before combat, in a surprise situation, things are entirely different. But an experienced combatant will not have facing when fighting has broken...

    Disappointed D&D Insider Customer

Newsflash. Copying is not stealing. It might be copyright infringement, but it will never, ever be stealing. Wise up. Not that I expect a more sensible move from WotC, but the way to earn money in a digital economy is not in DRM and tighter security. But some people will always choose the stick...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

Really? How do you know that? Do you have access to WotC business records or are you just expressing a personal opinion? I suspect it's more a matter of you having an issue with that behaviour. Your argument is certainly coloured by preconceptions and prejudice. I don't understand why you are...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

Why are you assuming it was "unintentional"? You don't seem to credit WotC leadership with much intelligence. Of course they realised that some people would jump in and out. So what? They should focus on keeping happy those customers willing to pay full price and not try to punish those less...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

In your eagerness to defend this, you are forgetting something. People pay for DDI. Getting regular money from subscribers makes excellent bsuiness sense. Delivering on your promises to annual subscribers makes even better business sense. If your care about your customers, that is. But I...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

Yes, I suppose that would be the fanboy way of looking at it... I was more thinking of the madness of kicking paying customers in the groin and telling them to enjoy it.

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

So WotC are scrapping my Character Builder and offering me an online-only alternative? No, thanks. This is not making this customer happy. I'll be cancelling my DDI account today. Great work, Wizards! :erm: Rather, I would be cancelling if I could. If the WotC server wasn't giving "Server...

Red Box Monsters: Hints of Changes to Come?

How far? How about right before? I really don't understand your question. No, the event is the defined trigger. In this case "being reduced to 0 hit points". So, before you reduce the orc to 0 hit points, he gets to do a standard action. I don't see the problem. Well, Polearm Gamble states...

Red Box Monsters: Hints of Changes to Come?

I don't see the can of worms here. The interruptable event is clearly described in the trigger. It is not something each player can decide. There is nothing half-way about it. The event is "being reduced to 0 hit points" and the interrupt occurs right before that event, nothing else. What is...

    New web-based content?

Huh? I'm sitting at a WinXP sp3 machine right now and it runs very well here. If it's just a glitch on your installation, it should be possible to fix.

Red Box Monsters: Hints of Changes to Come?

The trigger is not the whole action. The trigger is just the event of being reduced to 0 hit points. If the immediate interrupt is spent on healing, this might invalidate the trigger. Killing the attacker or moving out of range will not invalidate the trigger, though.

    "Discipline of Death" Feat

Though that's also a feat bonus, so it doesn't stack with Disciple of Death.

    Slayer seems... meh.

Defender abilities? I haven't seen HotFL yet, but I had the impression that the slayer was a pure striker. Is he a defender-striker mix?
