Resist 5 - how does it work

Well, a combined type has its own very specific rules (eg "10 necrotic damage plus 10 cold damage" is very different from "20 necrotic and cold damage"), so I see that as something else entirely. Let's reason around the case of "10 necrotic damage plus 10 cold damage". With Resist 5 Cold, I...

Resist 5 - how does it work

That might be RAW or it might not be. I don't have the books here at work, so I can't check the fine print. But it certainly doesn't make any sense to me. "10 damage plus 1d8 fire damage" is one single damage expression, some of which is fire. You can apply your resistance whenever you take...

Resist 5 - how does it work

I would rule that you resist 5 of the total 20. If you have Resist X All, you could resist all the damage, but if you had Resist X Fire, you would only resist the fire part of it and at least 10 points (the untyped weapon damage) would go through.

Sell the fluff, pimp the crunch

This is something that would be of zero value to me. If I can't print out an adventure, I have no use for it. Not only that, but it's technically impossible to present something on the screen of a general purpose PC and keep it from being copied/printed. That would demand a whole new kind of...

Going through doors - opening of course :)

I would choose the second option. Not only do I think that's RAW (no interleaving of actions on your turn), but also that I expect a closed door to cost a little more time than an open one. Having to spend a minor action in the middle of your move is an almost negligible cost - it might as well...

Reasons why going down the Essentials line of thinking is a mistake !!!

I can't really get these two posts to work together. You are talking about how the game feels and plays, but even though you haven't played it, it doesn't feel like D&D to you. I don't get it...??

    D&D 4th edition conversions of AD&D

I think you misunderstood him, Dice. It looks to me as if he's looking for 4e conversions of old modules. Not the actual modules.

    Simplified Rolls

No, he has that covered. He just preferred an algebraic method rather than an arithmetic one.

    Simplified Rolls

Think like this: Imagine three different d4's - one blue, one green, one red. Each can show four different numbers, which means that the total number of unique results is 64 (4*4*4). How many of those 64 gives the sum of 3? Only one. How many gives the sum of 4? That's three (1 1 2, 1 2 1, and 2...

    Grab and Grappling Strike

No, its duration is explicitly listed in the power. No, it's not a grab attack. No, it's not a grab attack. No, it's not a grab attack. No, it's not a grab attack.

    New Hybrid Options

I have this gnome Swordmage|Feylock / Feytouched PP / Multiclass Bard who is an absolute blast to play. It's a rare combat round when he doesn't teleport at least twice all over the fight. True. My character's middle name is "confusion". And no one knows his role or function. Then again, he a...

I'm afraid to venture further inside it before I gain another level. :D

Strange AD&D module found in closet

Thanks, Guys! I'm looking at the Acaeum listings right now and almost choking on my coffee. Four figures indeed! And I didn't even have to slay a dragon to get it. :)

Strange AD&D module found in closet

While cleaning out my closets yesterday I came across a strange AD&D module I didn't recognise. It's called ST1 Up the Garden Path and seems to be rather rare from what I've found. It's probably a leftover from my gaming store of the eighties. I'm no collector myself, but where should I look to...

    Fun end of Evard season

Sure, but First Aid only triggers the monster's extant Second Wind. So you are essentially arguing that all monsters have access to Second Wind, even though it doesn't appear in their stat block. I see that as just wrong. The rules are clear on that. My view on this is: If I, as the DM, had...

    Fun end of Evard season

Some people seem to forget that Second Wind not only allows the expenditure of a healing surge, but also gives +2 on all defences until EONT. I think it's entirely unfair to suddenly give the monster access to that power if it wasn't already on its stat block. Entertaining story and a funny...

No, the article doesn't open anything. It's just random speculation. Nothing to see here. Move right along.
