D&D 5E (2014) How Murder Hobo is Your Party

Well, my party is probably about a 7.5 on the murderhobo scale. Since we're in the Underdark and most things are trying to kill us, we often turn to violence, interrogation, etc. And while we don't murder the common people of the towns, we do accept their missions to murder stuff for them first...

    D&D 5E (2014) 3d6 in Order

Before Racial -> After Mods STR 14 -> 16 DEX 12 CON 16 INT 16 WIS 12 CHA 6 -> 7 This looks like a good Dragonborn Eldritch Knight to me (And I thought it was gonna be a Barbarian based on the first three rolls). I suppose a 6' 8" Dragonborn in heavy armor, that is highly intelligent and knows...

    D&D 5E (2014) BarBEARian: Barbarian/Druid multiclass

Unfortunately, 5e multiclassing requires that you meet the prerequisites of both classes. That means you're gonna need at least 13 strength. Otherwise, your barbearian seems like a fun idea and one I've toyed around with before. A raging bear totem bear is a pretty ridiculous sac of HP.

D&D 5E (2014) What is your preferred level of play?

I'm actually not sure what to vote for. I like the idea of high level play. I'd certainly want to test it out more before I render my judgement. I simply haven't played above 11th~12th level. But some of the options at higher levels appeal to me. At the same time, I like the tactics and thrill...

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

You're thinking of a different feat. Heavily Armored-Gives prof. in heavy armor. Heavy Armor Master-Reduces all non-magical bludgeoning, piercing, slashing damage by 3.

    D&D 5E (2014) Killing a Teammate

Respectfully, I must say that I do not think your example fits the scenario very well. Having a character that is basically out for 8-10 sessions, or even 1 session, is a lot different than having a character who is out for 1d4 hours. They don't even need extra, higher level resources. They do...

D&D 5E (2014) level 4 question - how to help my party best

Inspiring Leader can also essentially add 8 HP to himself, recharging every single rest, and oh yeah, he can add that 8 HP to the rest of his party as well (every single rest). In his party of 4, he can hand out up to 32 HP for free every single rest. If he's traveling with more companions or if...

D&D 5E (2014) level 4 question - how to help my party best

It really depends on what you want to do. A feat like Inspiring Leader will grant you and your party temporary HP, which makes you all tougher. Taking straight Dex and Con will help you survive. What does your party look like? What roles do you want to fill? Do you want to support them? Do you...

D&D 5E (2014) Today is a good day to die!

I think if our goal is to simply hit and hit again, the Champion is the best option. Even better if they are a crossbow expert or dual wielder. Every other class has all these silly options and resources to consider. A Champion will simply attack over and over again, plain and simple.

D&D 5E (2014) Vampiric Touch Opportunity Attack Ruling?

Very well put. When I was initially considering the scenario, I was thinking you'd need warcaster to make the OA. However, I see you logic and agree with your ruling.

D&D 5E (2014) MM and DMG Errata are Posted

Good to see some errata for the other core books. Interesting to see how they tweaked the monsters.

D&D 5E (2014) Life Cleric Multiclass armor prof

Would you give a multi-classed Warlock 1 / Valor Bard 3 their extra proficiencies at level 3? I don't see why not. There's no real reason to not give out the proficiencies granted by the Cleric's domain features. There are other things specifically called out in multiclassing, such as a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Help creating a tough defender

Paladins do make a great support style defender. And spells like Command or Compelled Duel can certainly help lock down enemies. Their level 6 aura, adding their Charisma modifier to all saves within 10 ft, is one of the best ways to protect your allies (If you bless them, you can add even more...

    D&D 5E (2014) Help creating a tough defender

I'd go for a few (3-4) levels in barbarian. Once you get bear totem at level 3, your ability to tank skyrockets. In case you didn't know: Bear totem gives resistance to all damage except psychic while raging.

    D&D 5E (2014) OotA Ranger Favored Terrain

I think it's fair to have his features work. The ranger class gets a lot of flak, but this is exactly the sort of situation where they are supposed to excel. Don't punish the players for picking something that works and playing what they want. As for play experience, my party has a underdark...

D&D 5E (2014) Feat at 1st Level: How To Go About It?

I let my player's have a free feat at 1st level and I even allowed the variant human double feat option. But they opted for other races, a halfing, a half-elf, a drow, and a tiefling. Anyway, the free option is simple and easy. If they don't want to rifle through all the complicated feats, I...

D&D 5E (2014) Which of the core books have you read cover to cover?

When I got it, I did go through my DMG reading each and every little bit. While I didn't retain a lot of the random charts and information, I did get a lot of useful bookmarks in there for future reference. I have gone through some sections the PHB a lot, but I have gone through the whole thing...

D&D 5E (2014) How to make an optimized and powerful net user

Good Maneuvers: Precision Attack or Feinting Attack can help make sure you hit. And you want to make sure you hit with your net. Parry is never a bad thing to have. It can help you stay standing and that's always useful. Pick them if you want them: Rally and Commander's Strike are available...

    D&D 5E (2014) First character---Need help

Are you guys doing point buy or rolling for stats? Are you starting at level 1? Is this for adventurer's league or home-play? What is your situation here? The more we know, the more we can help. The above advice is pretty solid though.

    D&D 5E (2014) Inspiring Leader multple use

My character with inspiring leader usually plays in a party with 7 players. Meaning that he inspires everyone else and then talks to himself for 10 minutes... At least it's less awkward when we have some extra NPC's and I can spend those extra 10 minutes inspiring them as well.
