Vile Darkness- Controversy and the past

I will hope that that was not a deliberate and disingenuous misread. You can express your opinions all you want. But if you want to stop WotC from publishing stuff that doesn't meet your personal preferences, cut it the hell out. You have no business trying to ruin my enjoyment of the hobby...

How did you get into D&D?

I had always been a big reader, and one of the things my mom got me into was mythology: Greek and Roman especially though I was also interested in Norse and Pharonic myth. Around this time (I was about 8 or so) one of my parents' friends, Jack, and his teenage daughter (who was our babysitter...

    AD&D First Edition inferior?

I don't really have an opinion on whether it's a good idea or not. But the question is are we operating in the realm of pure fantasy or are we talking about the real world? Wizards have to have a reason to do this. They need a reason to divide the energies of their SRD intern or to get...

    AD&D First Edition inferior?

It's not about what I want. I want to be married to a 5' tall bisexual post-punk model with a PhD in English Literature and a PhD in Physical Anthropology. Tough for me. It's about what's going to happen in the real world. If you want to convince Wizards of the Coast to do it, you've got to...

Vile Darkness- Controversy and the past

Translation: "I don't like it." It's not childish. It's not deliberately inflammatory. I want more than "it's childish." Explain how it is made for children. As for its inflammatory nature, it's only inflammatory if someone who's going to be inflamed is going to see it. They're not. Or if...

Vile Darkness- Controversy and the past

Pardon me a minute, I need to let out a blood-curdling scream of frustration loud enough to make the bars on my cage hum. Okay. Thanks. All better now. So what's the solution? Don't write anything that might offend someone, sometime, somewhere? God damn it. I am so depressed that D&D fandom...

    AD&D First Edition inferior?

It's not like I don't understand you because you're bringing in esoteric points made by Zarathustrian sages. It's because you are not expressing yourself clearly. I'm not complaining about your spelling, or how you use commas, but it's extremely frustrating to try to make sense out of the words...

    AD&D First Edition inferior?

It's genuinely not about disagreeing with him, it's about the fact that he completely fails to express himself in a clear manner. Most of what he says doesn't make any sense, not because it doesn't agree with my opinion, but because it's not clearly written. I'm frustrated by a lack of clear...

    AD&D First Edition inferior?

Thanks, sincerely, for the advice. I'm not really upset, I just want to point out the essential problem here is that some people are trying to have a discussion and others are merely posting senseless drivel. And I don't say that because Gene has opinions that differ from mine, but because he...

    AD&D First Edition inferior?

Speaking of taking bait, I put that in there intentionally, realizing it is something that could be criticized. Despite my colloquialism, my meaning was clear. Yours is completely obscured. You might consider actually making the point you intend to make rather than leaving it as some sort of a...

    AD&D First Edition inferior?

Did you take any writing courses, like, ever? I can only understand what you're trying to say about 10% of the time. Is the above meant to indicate that you believe there's a weakness in giving XP for treasure? I assume not, given your general take on things. So if not, how the hell does what...

Indeed, using that system, why don't merchants and bankers all have 359 hit points and the ability to slay red dragons in their sleep?

The problem, Flexor, is you're apparently coming into the middle of the discussion without having read and paid attention to the entire thing. He's having a conversation about absolute morality versus relative morality. Yes, it's silly to argue that characters might actually be killing people...

Because treasure is its own reward. It lets you buy things, including magic items which, if you have enough of them, are like an entire class level in efficacy and (such magic items) can do some things that experience can't do.

It wouldn't be incorrect, it would just be a too-limited answer.

I didn't mean to suggest that that's how you felt, blah. Can I call you blah? Rather, I just saw your post as an opportunity to brag about my really cool bumper sticker :).

Yeah, I love it. Though a friend of mine told me a cautionary tale after seeing it. He told me never to drive through the South with my car. Here is his tale: "My friend is driving through Georgia at about 100 miles per hour and gets pulled over by a state cop. Cop comes up to the window...

    AD&D First Edition inferior?

I have absolutely no idea what these two paragraphs mean. The first one seems to indicate one person and one person only determined how 3rd Edition would be based on his individual preferences (which is quite obviously incorrect), but I have absolutely no idea what this means, or what it has to...

    Has FR "jumped the shark"?

You made the complaint, you ought to justify it. How does it cause you any harm that they have published a metaplot?
