The Book of Vile Darkness - it is mine, review within

It was intended to be, but I didn't understand your point at the time. You were responding to someone who felt the same creature ought to be challenging to 2 characters that are 12 levels apart. This is clearly off, even without the huge leap up from core levels to epic levels, and I don't...

Should a DM change an official NPC?

Let's turn it around: what is the possible danger of altering "official" NPCs?

It's no more my only response to things than, "3E is bad at this," is yours. I happen to be thoroughly fed up with people acting as though Wizards did something wrong when they merely don't like what Wizards did for a reason of personal taste. If you frame your comments in the context of...

Let's take this back a bit: do you think there's a way for Grazz'zt to be challenging to both 20th level characters and 32nd level characters? I think the answer is obviously not. So the only thing I can guess is that you're advocating that they rewrite the Epic Level Handbook or the core...

It's not concstructive criticism. The book is written. There's no way you can help with the construction. Furthermore, what you're in essence saying is, "This is how I wanted it to be," but that's not only not constructive criticism, it's not valid criticism. If there had been some error, or...

But it would be impossible to present creatures that would be challenging to both epic characters and mortal characters. That follows pretty much by the definition of the concepts. So the question is, who do they write the book for? The larger audience of non-epic groups, or the more rarified...

Re: *yawn* So, what's the point of your comments, if not to say that people who like it are juvinile? To put everyone on notice that you're not interested? Seems rather suspicious.

It's actually extremely relevent to discerning whether or not you have a valid complaint, and thus germane to this discussion.

You're tossing off, "a party of four 32nd level characters," pretty lightly. That's 4 characters, each more powerful than whatever UberNPC people might like to complain about from any given setting. There shouldn't be loads of 32nd level characters. And I put it to you that if the CRs had...

If there was one thing about 3rdE that you could change, what would it be?

Just because people complain a lot about a given spell, ability, etc., doesn't mean it's broken. It just means people need things to complain about. This is the Internet, after all. If every suggestion you make here was re-edited, there'd still be complaints, some of them being that the...

Why? This would seem to be the core problem. What's so sacrosanct about an official NPC? If anything I'd think official NPCs are the most in need of alteration, since players can get their hands on the stats and make assumptions their characters have no way of making.

If there was one thing about 3rdE that you could change, what would it be?

I would start out by disallowing idiots to play the game. You know. The kind of people who start threads designed to be a cover for, "God, 3rd Edition sucks ass!" That said, here're the changes I would make: Get rid of alignment. It is extremely lame. You can even have a struggle against...

I am not taking a single thing you've said at face value. It seems very clear to me that you are hoping to offend people and eager to get into an argument so you can further expound on your misogyny.

Something else I wanted to mention: Hormones don't do as much as people think they do, popularly. That subthread back a bit, I heard that NPR story, too. Some things I don't think were mentioned: They spoke to a doctor whose specialty lies in this field at the end, after he heard the story...

Thanks. Hopefully it will get me mad phat chix. If you're always smelling of food and--argh. Screw this. If a woman is dressed provocatively, you can't really assume anything from it. A lack of a bra may just indicate that she doesn't feel comfortable in them. I will avoid further examples...

Yes, though I doubt they have anything to do with what you said. It's, simply, about respect. Sexualizing women ignores their other assets. It's disrespectful to ignore everything about someone but one, even if it's something they're proud of or cherish. For example, let's say you're able to...

Meepo, about my sig. + Strangest inspiration for gaming

The Pogues' Sickbed of Cuchulainn ( http://www.uni-mainz.de/~cielp005/pogues/pogue041.htm ) got me interested in researching the Cuchulainn myth. I'm reading Lady Gregory's translations of the myths, called Cuchulain of Muirthemne. I'm working on creating a raparee prestige class that will...
