Critical Role Announces Two New RPGs

I would imagine most groups that don't play online to make copies of the relevant sheets, pretty much like as with any other RPG. Surely it's the cards that is the limiting factor, especially if two or more characters share the same domain and want to use the same ability. I can imagine having a...

That's why I wrote "most" and not "all". 😂

Critical Role Announces Two New RPGs

Also, for a group of theater kids like CR, switching to their own system so that they can get rid of most of the ”your fun is wrong/D&D doesn’t work like that” would be icing on the cake. 😄

Critical Role Announces Two New RPGs

I can easily see how the Critical Role cast would love to RP using this system rather than D&D. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Daggerheart becoming a prominent feature of their content production. Quite possibly supplanting D&D as the main show’s system. If the CR gang feels forced to play a...

The Best Game for A Long Campaign

Still GM:ing the same campaign we started in March 2017 using D6 Fantasy. Of course, over the years many houserules accumulated, then those rules morphed into my own take on a D6-based RPG, and now they’ve morphed into an entirely different system of my making. My point is that a long-running...

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

A common theme in this thread seems to be what can and what can’t be done according to RAW. I think this points at the heart of D&D’s problem and in particular with the upcoming revision. Roleplaying is about having fun, not slavishly following a particular set of rules. Is flex a fun weapon...

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

I’ve got D4:s in the shape of D12:s with three sides per number. They roll very well. 🙂 Edit: These to be precise. All Available

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

Except for multi-attack archers that apparently can pull multiple arrows from their quiver and nock them, thus readying their weapon - for free - each turn. D&D RAW is an incoherent mess and has always been. 😂

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

If the uselessness of the two-handedness of versatile weapon when applying flex is a concern, a simple step in the right direction would be to let flex increase the damage dice one step. 🤔 Versatile D6/D8 becomes D8/D10 with flex and versatile D8/D10 becomes D10/D12.

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

Except the errata for two-handed weapons state the following. Thus wielding a two-handed weapon doesn’t stop you from casting spells with somatic components as it’s assumed that you let go of the hilt or haft with one hand.

Critical Role Announces Two New RPGs

Another effect of switching from 1d20 to 2d12 is that you get more of a bell curve when it comes to the rolled result. Whereas a d20 gives you 5% chance to roll any number, 2d12 ranges from 8.33% for 13 to 0.69% for 2 or 24. 50% of all rolls will end up in the 10-16 range...

Critical Role Announces Two New RPGs

This reminds me of Fantasy AGE that awards stunt points. However, you only gain stunt points on successful rolls so if you have (without modifiers) 50% chance to succeed on a roll, you have about 22% chance to gain 1-6 stunt points. Daggerheart clocks in at 54.17%. Plenty of meta-currency to...

Critical Role Announces Two New RPGs

As a gamemaster and game designer, the 2d12 mechanic is rather interesting. If we assume that the ”fun” success rate is to be the fabled ~65% (or 2/3) of the time, the modified target number (TN) should be 12. TN:s of 14, 16, and 18 yield success rates of 50%, 36%, and 25% respectively. That’s...

    A Change of Pace...

Not that it in any way would make your life as a DM/GM that much easier, but I can personally vouch for the D6 system that came out of Westend Games. It’s certainly not D&D!

    A Change of Pace...

What an excellent timing for the Traveller Humble Bundle! Scum and Villainy is another sci-fi alternative. If playing knights would be of interest, give the Pendragon Starterkit a spin. Fantasy-wise, Dragonbane would very likely be easy enough for the group to pick up. Or Forbidden Lands if...
