    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger

It's a game balance/time issue. In 3rd Edition, summoning could be powerful (not always) but it always extended round length. Even if the player is "on the ball" and has the right stats and thinks and acts fast, their turn is going to take longer. I'm not a fan of casting rangers either. Why...

D&D 5E (2014) Dwarves: too good as fighters?

Is that trope ever going to go away? A slow wizard is a dead wizard, at least until they can cast Fly.

D&D 5E (2014) Legendary Actions (from HotDQ download)

I'm a huge fan. They exist to create "solo" monsters. The first monster we saw with Legendary Actions was a black dragon. I tested a monster like that in 4e, and concluded the monster should have a triggered action (at the start of a player's turn) instead. In either case, the monster has a...

D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen, Linear Adventures and Sandbox Wishes

Some DMs prefer sandbox, some prefer railroad. Whenever a sandbox adventure gets published, a good chunk of DMs can't use it. Whenever a railroad gets published, a good chunk of DMs can't use it.

D&D 5E (2014) Dwarves: too good as fighters?

They may have made the best fighters in 3e too. They lost a feat compared to humans, but got +2 to saving throws against spells, and the speed penalty was meaningless if wearing heavy armor. D&DN is similar to 3e with less technical language. This doesn't really surprise me.

    Pathfinder 1E poor party composition

An inexperienced summoner player might not know what creatures to summon. Of course, it's still a really powerful PC. D&D has a lot of "unwritten" rules that players might have trouble getting. A player of mine, now a medical doctor, didn't grasp that creatures had obvious weak saving throws...

Pathfinder 1E "What were they thinking?!" For when the number's just don't add up.

The wealth by level chart is a rule. So is BAB, saving throws, etc. The OP is complaining about an "overpowered" PC, and a good fix would have been to follow the rules.

    Pathfinder 1E poor party composition

How did the players reach such a high-level without knowing the rules? And why are new players playing such high-complexity classes like the summoner? You need to teach them the basics, out of the game.

    D&D 5E (2014) AC 25+

5e rules are written in "natural language" rather than clear, gamist language. I suspect this kind of misinterpretation will be common :(

D&D 5E (2014) Was Tempest an odd choice for PC-centric domain?

If you're not using the standard setting, you could assign any domain to any homebrewed deity. I think in the grand scheme of things, this is really minor. I don't understand the concern with Kord and Beory.

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm surprised there hasn't been a mention of the Vistani.

The Oriental settings tend to get into trouble only when they're stereotypical. Generally they've been well-researched, at least as of 3.0, but one of those classes (I think it was Sword & Fist's samurai) regularly got poor marks for being crammed with negative stereotypes, in addition to being...

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm surprised there hasn't been a mention of the Vistani.

Do we really need yet another subrace? Whether they're intended to be gypsies or not, it's far too easy to accidentally make a human subrace offensive.

Pathfinder 1E "What were they thinking?!" For when the number's just don't add up.

I don't think the character is reasonable. A 7th-level PC starts with 23,500 gp, and should have 33,000 gp at 8th-level. I'm presuming they started at lower level and reached 7th-level; still, it seems the DM is giving out too much cash. The ring and amulet each cost 8,000 gp, and together...

Pathfinder 1E Specific examples of how easy Pathfinder is broken.

Creatures with tremorsense and blindsense are pretty rare, and if you have a wizard who will cast Greater Invisibility every encounter, you need to deliberately tailor every encounter to nerf that one spell... maybe the problem is the spell. Those encounters were against similar NPCs (being...

Need DM help: Skill Challenges, encounters and story transitioning

IMO the best skill challenges are ones you make up on the spot. The PCs might not have to blend in with the passengers. They might overpower or outsmart their opponents instead. Why are they hiding? What is after them? Why don't they just kick its butt? It sounds like you could combine the...

Pathfinder 1E Sacred Geometry - Ladies and gentlemen, Pathfinder has jumped the shark

I've seen worse in Pathfinder, but not very often. There's an item in Ultimate Equipment that lets you slap on free Persistent Spell on any spell with a specific type of duration. (The defenders "won" the argument because it doesn't work on Time Stop, never mind that that's a straw man.) I...

    Psionic ability Cause Decay

I don't know what source you copied-and-pasted from, but it doesn't work well with this forum. It doesn't just put black text on a black background, but when quoting I could scarcely read it due to all the font baggage. A lot of 2e rules weren't clearly written, and psionics was also pretty...

D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition: How to Make My DM Cry

Is that invincible fighter or paladin exploit still available? *Twitch* This is bad for the game, but I don't think it has anything to do with game balance. (At least now they can still sneak attack.) *Twitch*

Pathfinder 1E Specific examples of how easy Pathfinder is broken.

I would count that as broken (specifically the combat breakdown due to invisibility). Exalted had a reputation for that (everyone getting perfect defenses) but no one in our group used them, so fortunately we never experienced that. There's a few other broken things. I read a thread at Paizo...
