    Evil Campaigns

That is not correct. Not all of them :) I don't want to spoil it, but that won't happen... much. If an evil NPC is nice to you, they probably aren't going to stab you in the back. Barring an exception or two, of course. The LG to other PCs is the way thri-kreen behave, oddly enough. (Especially...

    Evil Campaigns

I'm a bit surprised at that response. Between the Pact of Thorns and the low survivability of PCs in that particular part of the module, that is the worst time to backstab each other.

    Evil Campaigns

I'm running that right now. I converted it to 4e. The PCs just got betrayed, and look like they're about to make the situation worse for themselves. The PCs keep capturing the good-aligned adventurers and trying to befriend them. Evil is generally hard to run, as lots of players require...

Uh... since when was this an issue.

I agree. I just added two board members to my ignore list, as they sound exactly like some banned members.

    D&D 5E (2014) 15 Petty Reasons I Won't Buy 5e

Agree. Somebody said they didn't like minions, so WotC decided they must listen. :( Actually solos are back, they're just called "legendary". Already demonstrated, in fact. *Shudder* Fixable by using point buy, but I wonder how many games will crash and burn over this. You see, WotC...

Uh... since when was this an issue.

Just a few. Many (most?) dailies deal damage on a miss. The at-will power Reaping Strike (or Reaping Stance for Essentials knights) does damage on a miss, although only a little. There's a slayer (or maybe knight) paragon-level utility encounter power that lets you deal a little damage on a...

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Fighter's "Second Wind" ability grant temporary HP instead of regular HP?

Only if healing is cheap and easy out of combat... and in D&DN, it isn't really. 13th Age has a fairly similar healing system, but it does one thing better: the number of "recoveries". Most PCs get 8 per day, and fighters get 9. (Fighters can also 1/encounter spend a recovery as the equivalent...

    UPGRADING to a dumb-phone

The best advice I have for people who must have a cell phone... do not give out your number to anyone but a significant other. Cell phones warp brains, not through brain microwaving, but creating assumptions. In other words, people will call you because they believe you're always available. Or...

D&D 5E (2014) By the book alignment, in a simple, satisfying manner

It's an eight-year old post. I wonder if we can get the OP there to edit it. Well at least it's clear :D

    Humans statted in bestiaries?

For 3e, look in the DMG. They're organized by class. (A bandit could be a fighter, or rogue, or something similar.)

Help Designing a 9th level Bubble of Force?

If you have access to Arcana Evolved/Unearthed, I would steal the Eldritch Sphere spell. Admittedly it's lower level but it works pretty well. The spell that you're using would block line of effect for a lot of spells, so your spell attack options would be limited. Is that what you want? (A...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Unhappy About Non-LG Paladins?

After seven pages it's kind of late to weigh in, but I voted this way: "No; in fact, it's a minor selling point." The paladin has been one of the most divisive classes since it first appeared. Time to put a stop to the negativity around it. (Actually that was done in 4e too, but nice to see...

[Forked from the Escapist Magazine Interview Thread] What implications does E...

They got it to fit. In Dark Sun, the fey and elemental planes have been devastated even worse than the natural world by defiling magic. They're filled with insane spirits (there's even a paragon path relfecting that). In effect, those places (especially the Feywild) are about to end. The eladrin...

Pathfinder 1E According to... uh the guy who pickled us.

What level is your group? What classes do the other players have? I'm a little bit confused. If your group leader likes buying equipment, shouldn't they be dealing with items? Is the group leader the chronomage? That would tend to tick off the other druids. Expect a Godzilla dance party...

[Forked from the Escapist Magazine Interview Thread] What implications does E...

I would assume that, but I was thinking of a city in the natural world, and didn't know we were thinking of FR. Certainly a big eladrin city like Evermeet would have plenty of paragon and epic casters. (The "generic" eladrin in the MM1 are level 19 to 21 or so! Dark Sun has much more...

Are megadungeon still a viable play experience?

Different players, different expectations. I find it hard to manage a large dungeon unless it's well-designed. IMO, a well-designed dungeon is the opposite of Keep on the Shadowfell, which had a bunch of rooms crammed with monsters, each right next to the other. PCs really should be provoking...

[Forked from the Escapist Magazine Interview Thread] What implications does E...

Teleport Catcher is an 18th-level ritual. Characters of such high-level aren't common, and even an 18th-level ritual scroll is uncommon and expensive. You're better off sticking really tough material in front of the bars so the eladrin can't see out. Also no windows.

[Forked from the Escapist Magazine Interview Thread] What implications does E...

Following the last post, I figure every eladrin door would have a window, one that you could clearly see and teleport past... along with a thick black piece of felt that could be used to cover the peephole window (privacy, keeping out thieves, etc).

    Team Players

Closer to #3 than #2, so I voted #3. After a disastrous d20 Modern campaign a decade ago I learned that "you all meet in a bar" doesn't work as a trope (not literally, the PCs met for a job, but they were strangers). Some years ago, my group would have several short games, most of which weren't...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's up with the Realms?

WotC didn't say FR wouldn't be updated. It would probably sell well. (FR was the 4th biggest-selling book in 3e, and that's in a market dominated by the core three.) Just because FR 5e isn't on Amazon doesn't mean it will never be. FR 3e and 4e took their time to come out, so I don't see why FR...
