    D&D 5E (2014) Psionics in a sci-fi D&D

I'm not sure I actually answered this properly. In between (a classic compromise), butt closer to magic reskinned. I don't know if a totally new system could be balanced; I'm looking at a new class like the 3.5 warlock or Magic of Incarnum (which still used sensible save DCs, "caster" levels...

    D&D 5E (2014) Psionics in a sci-fi D&D

How would a telepath defend themselves from zombies or golems? At least an enchanter could cast Mage Armor or Shield.

    D&D 5E (2014) Psionics in a sci-fi D&D

There's more things that can be done with psychokinesis rather than just moving things (though of course there's that). Off the top of my head: spontaneous combustion, concussion/project force/Force Push (this is using force to smack one or more targets, inflicting damage as well as shoving or...

    D&D 5E (2014) Psionics in a sci-fi D&D

I don't need a completely different system like in 2e. I would want to see different powers, but still balanced the way magic is balanced. So power levels (instead of spell levels) with save DCs that make sense (no stat rolls like in 2e). Sort of like how warlocks are (at least vaguely)...

D&D 5E (2014) Campaign Diary: Converting "The Enemy Within" to 5E

"It's just a rat-shaped beastman." Reality distorts to keep skaven a secret.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Survivor - Deities (Part 1: Forgotten Realms) Selune Advances!

Auril, goddess of winter Azuth, god of wizards Bane, god of tyranny Beshaba, goddess of misfortune Bhaal, god of murder Chauntea, goddess of agriculture Cyric, god of lies Deneir, god of writing Eldath, goddess of peace Gond, god of craft Helm, god of protection Ilmater, god of endurance...

D&D 5E (2014) "People complain, but don't actually read the DMG!" Which sections specifically?

Why aren't these in the PHB? I'm going to take a look at it next time I game in-person, but when it comes to 5e I'm player-only.

    TSR Best D&D Novels

Does anyone know the name of the D&D novel that, apparently, exactly replicates 2e combat? With combat rhythm and everything? I find very few D&D novels that actually resemble D&D rules all that much. I don't think I've ever seen a wizard or cleric who wasn't nerfed (except Cadderly and...

D&D General Dark Sun Nostalgia Thread [+]

There's a bunch of pictures on this page: https://dmdave.com/10-times-dark-sun-characters-stopped-what-they-were-doing-to-pose-for-a-brom-painting-and-flex-their-quads/

D&D General Dark Sun Nostalgia Thread [+]

I didn't get into it right away, simply due to lack of info until a few years afterward. But when I got into it, I got really excited. I even bought Thri-kreen of Athas (I didn't have a credit card and had to mail a cheque to an outfit in the US). I didn't get to play much. I DM'd more than I...

    D&D 5E (2024) Casting time of 1 round.

IME full round spells are just confusing at the table (from 3rd Edition), since there seemed to be two types of full-round spells, one easy to disrupt and one not? Opponents can ready actions to disrupt the spells you mentioned. (Teleport and Plane Shift, IMO, should be "ritual only", 4e style...

D&D General Carrying Capacity of Animals and Creatures

I trimmed a bit and spaced things out. I didn't rewrite anything. This needs tables. But it's no longer a giant wall of text.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you determine your initial Attributes?

During any campaign, you will be making lots of attack rolls, lots of ability checks or saving throws, lots of skill checks, etc, but if you are rolling your stats, you only do that once, so high stat rolls or low stat rolls stick with you for the entirety of the game. It's not the same thing...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you determine your initial Attributes?

For me it's about fairness, not builds. You wouldn't play a 6 on 5 player game of hockey, would you?

D&D 5E (2014) How do you determine your initial Attributes?

Point buy only. I'm shocked at how many roll. Ever since 3e unified the way ability scores worked (and weighed the point buy as well), there has been no need to roll stats.

D&D 5E (2014) Escalating Conflict: a House Rule to curb the amount of death in D&D

Will non-damaging spells become more dangerous somehow? I have a general issue with morale checks. They don't apply to PCs, and they can be very easily triggered by an "alpha strike" right at the beginning of combat. (It's worse if you can make enemies run away just be defeating their leader.)...

    D&D General Inherently Evil?

I, Tyrant made beholders inherently evil. They are so xenophobic they should share notes with the Daleks. If you raise a baby beholder (which is really cute) it will eventually murder you for not being a beholder. In fact, it will murder other beholders that are even slightly different. For...

D&D General How Long Did You Play the Different Editions of D&D? (+)

    D&D 2e: 1994 to 2000. Hard stop. D&D 3e: 2000 to a little beyond 2008. Pathfinder: 2008 to now. D&D 4e: 2008 to now. D&D Beyond: 2019 to 2021.

D&D 5E (2014) Help me setup "Clerical Insurance"

I like that idea. The wealthy tithe more, so they get served first. That's not good, but you know why it's happening. The extortion temple probably has backup from the local noble, otherwise it would be toppled by a "nicer" church.

D&D General Need wheat. Too dangerous. (worldbuilding)

To quote the (controversial) Guns, Germs & Steel, here are some ingredients for domesticating large animals for food purposes. Diet. (Most large domesticated animals are herbivores, because you want to feed them cheaply. Obviously large dogs are an exception to this, but I've never heard of a...
