D&D General Need wheat. Too dangerous. (worldbuilding)

Why is #3 correct? Farms tended to be clustered near castles for a reason. So if raiders attacked, the farmers could at least take shelter. Unintelligent rampaging monsters probably aren't interested in wheat. Non-farming intelligent monsters might know to raid farms, although such cultures...

D&D 4E Inquiry: How do 4E fans feel about 4E Essentials?

I don't think that was necessary. The fighter was seriously good at locking down stuff. My very first campaign (as GM, not counting a very short playtest) included a dragonborn fighter PC. Said fighter breathed dragon fire on opponents (as a minor action), which didn't kill them, but the player...

D&D 4E Inquiry: How do 4E fans feel about 4E Essentials?

That reminds me of when I saw a monk for the first time. We were TPK'd without even making an attack roll (converted 1e adventure) but the monk was basically bouncing all over the place like they were doing wire-fu. It was awesome!

D&D 4E Inquiry: How do 4E fans feel about 4E Essentials?

4.0 fan here. I mainly GMed. All 4.0 PCs had the AEDU structure. Then Essentials came out, and some Essentials characters didn't have this structure any more. The knight (Essentials fighter) didn't have daily powers, but the mage (Essentials wizard) did, and was basically a new version of the...

D&D 5E (2014) Healing Word "HD" House Rule

Back in 3e, I ran a high level one-shot for my players. The encounters were hard. In the first encounter, the cleric had to spend the first three rounds healing dropped PCs. He could use heal but still had to spend a move action (in his heavy armor) to get to the downed PC, spend his standard...

    D&D 5E (2014) Martial Ranger

I am not sure. I thought Fog Cloud merely created concealment. Glitterdust reveals invisible creatures. (So, technically, could sticky powder, which I'm guessing certain herbs could do.)

    D&D 5E (2014) Martial Ranger

It could be a little less magical. Two points: Nature's Gift needs a rename. It's not spiritual, and frankly a ranger could be bad for nature (eg a big game hunter) and still have these skills. Some of the herbalism kit stuff is magical, even if it's listed as extraordinary. If this was...

D&D General Do you prefer more or less Skills?

I'd rather have fewer skills. So many times I wanted more skills on a character, and often wanted non-class skills (dependent on the edition), such as taking Perception as a 4e fighter. Bodyguards need to see and evaluate threats, after all! The number of skills has generally declined from 3e...

    D&D 3.x DnD 3.5 Class Guides

I found a handbook here but don't be too quick to click on it: https://minmaxforum.com/index.php?topic=399.0 My anti-virus said something about certificates, so I'm linking to Archive.org as well: Handbook Index I checked the barbarian link and it works, so I presume the other links work as...

D&D General Does Dungeons & Dragon ever make you feel overwhelmed? (Letter about 1E that could be about any edition)

This contributes to GM burnout. Some GMs limit incoming material and avoid settings with a metaplot for just this reason.

    D&D 5E (2014) Can You Milk A Conjured Cow?

Can I go now? A cow is a domesticated animal. I don't think a druid should be able to summon one in the first place. :)

    D&D 5E (2014) Can You Milk A Conjured Cow?

If fey cows could produce milk, fairies wouldn't be so obsessed with it. Seriously, I'm of the opinion the creature, and anything removed from the creature, vanishes upon the end of the summoning. So drinking the milk wouldn't leave you nourished, you couldn't make leather from it's hide, etc...

    D&D General modern themed subclasses?

I think you would have to have more flexible classes for anything resembling an action movie. Something like d20 Modern, but more powerful and with better balance.

Pathfinder 2E Playtest Pathfinder's New Magus & Summoner Classes

Since it's been necro'd, is that book out? And if so, how is the new magus and summoner? I have to say Paizo is brave to even attempt the summoner again.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is D&D combat fun?

I think it's generally fun, but coming up with a good encounter is a bit of work for the GM. Sometimes they are unimaginative, or (in my case, IMO) they try to set up something interesting and unexpected but it ends going flat for some reason. I'm not too familiar with 5e, which means I can't...

D&D General What is an Adversarial Player?

Okay. By coincidence, another powerful NPC shows up, teleported in by a mage.

    D&D 5E (2014) Eight Abilities (Str-Con, Dex-Ath, Int-Per, Cha-Wis)

The proposed rules are very similar to Mutants & Masterminds. In that system the values aren't perfectly balanced, but it's easy to calculate a stat's worth. Note that in M&M Strength does not apply to attack rolls. Strength gave the ability to lift things and damage. (The ability to lift...

D&D General D20 Modern books available print on demand

They do not, and they don't own Star Drive either.

D&D General What is an Adversarial Player?

I've had the misfortune of meeting flavor number two. As a player, he would keep switching characters (to ensure the GM was always confused by his character) and either rules lawyer or cheat. One time he made the GM feel bullied. His last character followed the rules strictly, but was still...

    D&D 5E (2014) ...an invertebrate world?

I don't think a mind flayer counts as an invertebrate. There were many types of creatures in Dark Sun associated with the Tohr-kreen Empire (and Spelljammer's Xixchil). Rastipedes, bloodwings, giant snails (their slime can be used to construct buildings), and so forth.
