What are you reading in 2025?

It would be odd to have any academic books in a primary school (age 5-10) library, but my partner, who is a primary English specialist, has had to fight for the inclusion of graphic novels and the like over just "classics" in school libraries, especially when she was working in a private school...

What are you reading in 2025?

You and pretty much everyone else. Thing was, Doyle was pompous and self-important, and wanted to be a Dostoevsky (or more accurately, a Kipling) when all he was actually good at was writing (as he saw it) popular tripe. I have read all the Challenger stories, which have some interesting SF...

What are you reading in 2025?

The thing about comparing Dostoevsky and Carter is they are writing for completely different different reasons, and they are read for completely different reasons. Dostoevsky wrote because he had something to say. Carter wrote to entertain. Both writers succeed in what they set out to do...

    Old shows that you enjoy?

I was reminded of Fantasy Island recently. By the (poor) second series of Nine Perfect Strangers, which seemed to be changing into it, with Nichole Kidman as the new Mr Rourke, and Mark Strong as Lex Luthor.

    Old shows that you enjoy?

I saw The Fantastic Journey, but I was very young at the time and haven't seen it since. I remember Roddy McDowell, and people jumping into a cloud at the end of the Episode. When I saw Sliders, it kind of reminded me of this.
