Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set Price Point Revealed

Do you have any evidence to support that? Because I think it had more to do with streamed games and covid. I saw plenty of copies sitting on shelves whilst more expensive boardgames sold well. And I think the adventure is old fashioned - more likely to appeal to veterans than new players.

Could an American write Doctor Who? - Babylon 5 creator throws hat in the ring

I think Doctor Who would benefit from someone who is less of an auteur and more of a workman. I watched Murderbot, and felt "this is how Doctor Who should be (possibly with fewer exploding heads)". Give it time to develop characters and setting, and allow the threat to emerge gradually. It...

The Fantastic Four: First Steps - Official Teaser Trailer (2025)

As someone who enjoyed the groundedness of the Karl Urban version, I'm rather dreading this, as I suspect Taika will lean into the whacky side (and I would be very surprised if the antagonist is not Judge Death).

D&D 5E (2024) So what's going on with the October book?

I am now even more convinced than ever that the "horror theme" was a deliberate red herring. Consider hexblade. This was originally an "Elric" themed subclass, and was in Xanathar's. Calling it "horror" is tenuous. If it had appeared on it's own, without "Horror" in the title box, no one would...

D&D 5E (2024) So what's going on with the October book?

If it’s off the schedule, then there won’t be any official announcement, since it wasn’t officially announced in the first place.

Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set Price Point Revealed

To learn? I don’t think so. It’s like trying to teach electricity. It requires a very good imagination, and a very good description, to visualise without the aid of diagrams. Once you have learned with the visual aids, you might then go on to discard them*. Also consider chess. Everyone starts...

Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set Price Point Revealed

From a pedagogical point of view, it’s always good to have lots of visual aids and things to handle (kinaesthetic). Very few people learn simply by being told.

Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set Price Point Revealed

It’s very sad to see someone be so disparaging about what other people enjoy.

Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set Price Point Revealed

Could you download and print the 1977 rules for free? Miniatures, you were expected to provide yourself, it certainly wasn't written to be played "theatre of the mind". Also, this was the original: Didn't come with minis either, but required them to play - minis predated the game.

Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set Price Point Revealed

Given that D&D started out as a miniatures game, it's "theatre of the mind" that is the non-standard variant.

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Delayed Until December

From what I can see from my own books, the cover illustration is printed on glossy paper, then glued onto the cardboard cover. It looks like the warping due to differential expansion/contraction between the glossy paper and the cardboard. That suggests that it's not directly connected to the...

By treating Krypto as a shared pet it’s easy to justify him not appearing if the plot doesn’t have a place for him. I’m pretty sure Krypto would have been a lot better trained had he grown up on the Kent’s farm.

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Delayed Until December

I assume the printer shouldered at least part of the cost. But I don't think Deck sold particularly well - quite possibly because it ended up too close to the 2024 revised rules.

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Delayed Until December

I'm pretty certain this is delayed/cancelled, and the surprise is there is no October release. If the printers are busy frantically reprinting Eberron, then they can't be printing an October book, can they? Limited print capacity is going to make it difficult to get the FR books out on time too.

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Speaking as someone who has marked around 1600 exam papers this year alone. It's not that sophisticated, at least for public exams in England/Wales. If the correct answer is written on the answer line, full marks are awarded, irrespective of any working. The working is only reviewed if the...

Wizards of the Coast Reveals Revised Eberron Species Details

That's because there are no unique features of a "half Japanese, half German" person. So obviously, it's impossible to draw one. Of course, there is actually no such thing - their nationality would depend on where they were born. Their cultural background is going to be written into the...
