D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

It is a comedy trope, all be it a rather dated one, generally accompanied by Yakety Sax.

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

I expect Mercer is finding it difficult to break out of a D&D mindset. I think I would too. I wouldn’t mind playing Daggerheart, but I don’t think I could run a game without it turning into D&D with the numbers filed off. Old habits are hard to break.

D&D 5E (2024) Man I hate the organization of the 2024 Monster Manual

Not being sarcastic. But being dyslexic, I have never found alphabetical order particularly helpful.

D&D 5E (2024) Is There A New Sheriff in Town?

It comes up often enough for me, since I teach it every year. But even when it was first discovered it wasn’t a huge mystery, since the idea of atoms was already becoming known within the scientific community. It was just nice to get some evidence. It’s a good example of how it’s possible to...

What Do You Call This Popular Beverage?

You are partially correct. “Soda” originally referred to sodium bicarbonate. However, it came to be associated with the carbonate part rather than the sodium part. Fizzy drinks are carbonated. “Pop” comes from the sound of pulling a cork. Bottles were corked before the invention of screw tops...

D&D 5E (2024) Is There A New Sheriff in Town?

Sure we do. They are being bounced around by smaller particles that are not visible. That’s why it was an important observation. I think what you have just demonstrated is how widespread ignorance is.

D&D 5E (2024) Is There A New Sheriff in Town?

I have logic. Eventually the market becomes saturated. Everyone knows about D&D now. People are either players, or will never become players because they don’t enjoy that kind of thing. The red line cannot keep going up forever, but buisiness believes it can.

D&D 5E (2024) Is There A New Sheriff in Town?

You don’t know the corporate mentality. Sales don’t have to shrink in order to trigger panic, they just have to stop increasing in the way they had been. And guess what? That is already happening. It has nothing to do with DH, but DH is attracting a lot of attention right now, and in business...

D&D 5E (2024) Is There A New Sheriff in Town?

The point is, panic isn’t rational. Not having a reason to panic has never prevented people from panicking.

D&D 5E (2024) Is There A New Sheriff in Town?

I think you have highlighted a problem here. Whist Daggerheart doesn’t actually threaten WotC, that doesn’t mean it won’t send them into a blind panic over it. Which could mean they conclude that they need to make D&D more like Daggerheart (as they did with WoW). That would be bad, since...

Dark Horse Reveals First Dungeons & Dragons Comic

Quite. Or indeed at all, ever. I don't care about about guns particularly, I just get irritated when people who know nothing about history go on about D&D being medieval. And the best explanation for why there are no guns (or pants) in your setting is a wizard did it.

D&D 5E (2024) Is There A New Sheriff in Town?

This stuff worked fine in 3e rules though. No reason to buy new books if you already own them. Golarion works fine with 5e for that matter.

D&D 5E (2024) Is There A New Sheriff in Town?

Unfortunately Level Up doesn’t have the exposure that Daggerheart does. Daggerheart is differenter anyway. A streamed Voidrunners game would be good though.

D&D 5E (2024) Is There A New Sheriff in Town?

People exaggerate on the internet SHOCK! 4e was never particularly popular, but then 3e was already struggling to compete with video games. D&D started to rally after 2014 because of two factors: streamers introducing the game to a wider audience, and switching to much simpler, and therefore...

    D&D 5E (2024) Armor as THP?

The thing about the D&D is the numbers have had decades of work getting to where they are now. It’s far from the only way to do things, but starting from scratch is going to take a huge amount of work to get it to a place where it doesn’t suck. Fortunately, there are a bunch of other role...
