D&D 4E 4e Wizards - No More Necromancers, Enchanters, Summoners???

You can put my vote down for this, at least as regards Necromancy. I feel like all archetypal Necromancer stories describe mages who turn to dark magic after having mastered the normal, "safe" arts. It should definitely be a Paragon or Epic path for Wizards. So much cooler that way...

is Dungeons and Dragons still Lame

Sports are not what is lame. What is lame is a hobby in which you watch and talk about other people doing something. If you play a sport, that's pretty cool imo. If you just watch it and talk about it? Yeeeeeaahhhh....

D&D 4E Background Suggestion for the Gnome in 4e

This is similar to how I run Gnomes. My Gnomes are Fey who have left the realm of Faerie to live in the mortal world. They are basically the same race as Goblins as well. They are just the good/evil pairing (cf. elves and Drow). I prefer my Gnomes to look more Goblin-like: little or no hair...

    D&D 4E 4e . . . the RIFTSization of D&D!!!

OK, now you're exaggerating. If it is moving toward or away from Rifts, and those are the only two options, it's moving toward it.

    D&D 3.x 3.5: Out With A Whimper

Oh my! Enough discussion of Nintendo and Sony, please!

The minuses of pluses, the pluses of minuses.

Is this just speculation? I would actually think it's more likely Humans will get fixed bonuses, which would be cool for a change.

Are you concerned about LFR burning out FR novelty?

I wouldn't worry. I think most people either like a setting or they don't. They're not likely to burn out from overexposure. Forgotten Realms has always been popular, it should continue to be.

    D&D 3.x 3.5: Out With A Whimper

As has been said, you can't really keep things going unless you don't announce the new edition. And not only would it upset people to spring a new edition on them with no warning, it would also prevent you from doing pre-release marketing. So you have to balance the trade-off between marketing...

    Racial feats and standard feats

You might get a certain number of racial feats (eg, one at level 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10) but also be allowed to spend standard feat slots on them.

    D&D 4E 4E Giants

Interesting flavor, but I would have liked it if they structured it to reduce the number of giants overall to favor those from the original 1E MM. Mountain Giants are one of the most boring additions to D&D I can think of... aren't they just big Hill Giants? Who cares? Frost and Fire and...

    Racial Feats

I notice a lot of people discussing whether the preview racial feat for Elves is underpowered. It has been compared to other previewed feats from 4E as well. I think people may be forgetting the hints Wizards dropped about the Heroic levels and racial differentiation. Didn't they specifically...

    Combat vs. Role-playing

Or give some for fighting, but don't be so formulaic. It works well to assess key encounters less as "X monsters x Y CR = Z xp" and more in terms of the relevance to the story. Defeating a key foe warrants xp, as does convincing the Duke to send aid to the beleaguered town, and helping the...

    Combat vs. Role-playing

A big part of the reduction in role-playing is the reduction in realism. Of course, realism in a fantastic setting is often a touchy subject as not everyone agrees what level of realism makes sense. 1E had a very brutal sense of realism (whether it was truly realistic or not). The number of...

    The Unified Theory of Gnomes

Right on. D&D has always been combat-oriented, but that doesn't mean making it more combat-oriented is a good thing. It occupies a point on the spectrum and moving that point away from RPG style can definitely be overdone. Does anyone really want D&D to become Mordheim? Unless you do, you...

    The Unified Theory of Gnomes

You do realize that making rules for resolving social and diplomatic counters is a reduction in role-playing right? You're turning social interactions into dice rolls...

    D&D 4E 4e Drow predictions?

Best post ever! It's hard to remember what it was like when Drow were mostly in D3. I remember thinking they were so crazy looking when they were in the Fiend Folio (right next to the Elemental Princes of Evil... any Yan-C-Bin fans in the house?). Really, it's not young people. It's just...

    Races and Classes--I has it!

Illusionist would be ok as a Paragon path imo (a class might be cooler, but it also might be too little to base a 4E class on). Necromancer is IDEAL as a later path. Necromancers are traditionally always magic-users who later delve into the dark arts of death. Much cooler than a pure class...

    Nature Power Source

I would think Barbarians will be Defenders. It seems people are thinking Striker because they see Barbarians primary focus as killing things. But I think this misses two key points: 1) If Defenders aren't offensively powerful, there will be a LOT of angry Fighter fans out there. If this is...
