D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's Healing Spirit is 10d6 healing to the whole party out of combat?

Another option (a bit more complicated than Crawford's suggestion) is to allow the spell to only heal a creature that took damage from an enemy since its last turn. I specify "from an enemy" to prevent shenanigans like "I slap myself for 1 hp of damage." The main issue is remembering who took...

    D&D 5E (2014) Adventure Satisfaction Poll

Agreed. I voted "enjoyed" running Princes, but if I were rating the adventure, I'd probably give it only 3 out of 5 stars. The module has some good stuff in it and my group had a good time during most of it. But it also has some real flaws that I had to overcome. By the end of the adventure...

    D&D 5E (2014) Jack of All Saves

Seems fine to me. The bard capstone ability is pretty underwhelming, and this fits with the inherent flexibility of the class.

D&D 5E (2014) Standard CR Assessment: Standard abilities a high level party is always expected to have?

Maybe it's just my table, but I would change this to "primary stat is maxed at 20". I don't give out plus weapons/armor, both because they are boring and because they can too easily mess up bounded accuracy. I suspect there are other GMs who fell the same.

D&D 5E (2014) How Defeat this Coffelock Villain?

Wow. I knew there was a reason I don't play high level... Sorry I can't help, but welcome to the boards.

D&D 5E (2014) Another Against the Giants question (spoiler)

I think it comes down to how many PCs are in the party. If it's just four, they're going to need NPC help. If it's six or more, then probably not. I ran a comparison when TftYP came out and I believe the new giants modules cut the number/power of opponents by roughly 30% from the originals...

D&D 5E (2014) Let us share our funny (but maybe deadly) character builds!

Yeah, I should have used "multiple personality disorder" or some such. Oh well, not the first (or last) mistake I'll make in this life. :)

D&D 5E (2014) A simple solution to 'easy mode D&D' and the 6-8 combats problem

One trick I stumbled into is having enemies run away, only to attack later. I forget the specifics, but the barbarian immediately raged in the initial encounter. Just a few rounds in, the enemies ran away and the barbarian was unable to pursue. They collected reinforcements and attacked the...

D&D 5E (2014) A simple solution to 'easy mode D&D' and the 6-8 combats problem

One solution I've used is to run encounters in waves. Say the party encounter a frost giant hunting party. Maybe they only meet a couple at first. Assuming a fight breaks out, the party thinks they only have to worry about a couple giants. On round four, a half dozen winter wolves arrive, on...

D&D 5E (2014) What are the most UNDER/OVER CRed Monsters in the Monster Manual?

Then you missed my point. But I take yours and won't bother you further with contrary opinions.

D&D 5E (2014) What are the most UNDER/OVER CRed Monsters in the Monster Manual?

I think we'll have to agree to disagree here. I'm concerned about how the game plays at my table. One of the greatest strengths of this edition is how easy it is to house rule such stuff. I visit these forums to improve my game, not re-write the system. If WOTC agrees with some criticisms and...

D&D 5E (2014) What are the most UNDER/OVER CRed Monsters in the Monster Manual?

The teleport spell specifically mentions "willing creatures", so unless the creature description says otherwise, I would not allow this to work on an unwilling creature, even if grappled.

D&D 5E (2014) New Primal Path and Why it is OP

I disagree. The exact text is "While you're raging, having zero hit points doesn't knock you unconscious." They would still be affected by a sleep spell, as it's not dependent on the target creature having zero hit points. Of course, if the barbarian is an elf...

D&D 5E (2014) New Primal Path and Why it is OP

That could get awfully tricky any time the rage ends. The battle goes for more than 10 rounds? The barbarian's rage will end before the barbarian can again enter rage. The barbarian fails a save against various spells, such as hold person or confusion or hypnotic pattern, effectively losing his...

D&D 5E (2014) What are the most UNDER/OVER CRed Monsters in the Monster Manual?

Agreed. What I find interesting is that the designers did address this with the Nycaloth. Its teleport ability is an action, but the multiattack entry effectively allows them to drop one attack for teleport. Makes a ton of difference in play. If I was running a balor or similarly powerful...

    D&D 5E (2014) That’s a lot of charcoal! Find Familiar problem

I've made rulings with similar results, which I later regretted. Sometimes we GMs can be our own worst enemies. :o
