    D&D 3.x 3e, Old School Style

I was coming in all furious, ready to bitch/preach on how "old-school" should be a term reserved for AD&D (at least!)...and then I realized that 2000 was almost 12 years ago... *shuts up* *leaves*

An Incorporeal Undead's... Gear and Feats...?

Thanks for the answers guys. .....right the shadow is a normal MM Shadow. Non customizable up until.... it gets new HD. I understand the logic of following the Greater Shadow path but that is not necessary. Nothing under RAW suggests that one should. Of course, in the beginning you have to...

An Incorporeal Undead's... Gear and Feats...?

frankthedm, Jackinthegreen sorry for not specifying the creature... We are talking about a Shadowdancer's undead companion.

    Shooting or Throwing Into Melee

The -4 on an attack does not translate into a 20% chance to hit your friend. NOTHING under RAW suggests something of the like. How did you come to this conclusion? No it's not. SRD: Your aim is harder (-4) because the enemy is harder to hit with your friend in the way. If you miss you...

An Incorporeal Undead's... Gear and Feats...?

How would you boost an Incorporeal Undead? What Feats would you choose? What items would you give it? (citations fron any 3.5 book/source are welcome...)

    Sunder or Lock Weapons?

Hmmm... I dislike the fact that sunder/Weapon Breakage is so closely related to Weapon Locking. I mean I can't picture it... One attempts to break the weapon of the other... and the other's defense is to "lock the weapons"... IMO something doesn't add up... I can't picture it  (If I...

    Shooting or Throwing Into Melee

On page 28 of the DMG, there is a variant rule called: CRITICAL MISSES (FUMBLE). It says that on a natural 1 a character fumbles his weapon, and usually loses a turn to regain composure or something like that. It leaves fumbling open to interpretation, still it focuses on the weapon. With my...

    Traps and Search

Yep a player has to call for a Search check. Spot checks should not be used for traps. RAW specifies the use of spot, and it is not for traps.

    "Initiate of Mystra" Questions

It would make sense, because the caster could position the point of origin outside the AMF, even if he stands inside the AMF. Normally (without IoM that is) a caster cannot pull this off. Don't forget that both #1 and #2 are based on the axiom that the act of "casting" is inherently magical...

    Background Brainstorming Exercise

Amm.... Deeamar? :) Hmmm... I'd either go with Astar or Irion. Astar looks better for our case. Bentier sounds interesting too... but I'd probably pick a good Deity to flesh out the contrast.

Yeah, we all know where that came from... :p

Don't love your villains (or "How I screwed up, and how I fixed it")

Are you sure that your players were simply annoyed... or excited-annoyed? The way I see it, you provided a nice twist they could not have foreseen (or perhaps you gave them the chance to find out?). If I was in their shoes I wouldn't be disappointed of the game/session. I would probably be kind...

    Sunder Question...

Ok then, take my above example and change the weapon into a +2 dagger. 1d4+2, roll a 4 + 8 (+2 magic, +6 STR) ;)

    Sunder Question...

Well, I can see your point, and I have a hard picturing it as well... but... You said the attacker had a STR bonus of +6. That means a STR score of 22. Thing is... are we aware of what STR 22 really means?... what kind of creatures have such STR? On page 8 of the PHB, there are example...
