[Trailblazer] Any difference between the PDF and book?

That is totally not the first bit of print feedback I expected to see-- in fact just the opposite!

Stalker0's Review: The Trailblazer System by Bad Axe Games

Mark, your appreciation for Trailblazer means a lot to me. I appreciate it.

[Trailblazer] Any difference between the PDF and book?

I forgot to update the product info at RPGnow with the new page count (fixed now), but the PDF is current with the same version that went to the printer. If you bought the PDF from RPGnow, and you're set to receive notifications from them, then you would have been notified when the new version...

I have not said that 4e is not doing well-- I mean, just look at that Venn diagram! Look at the size of that circle!-- I said that it's not doing well where it counts for Goodman Games: among those folks in the market for support material (and specifically for 3pp support). It doesn't matter...

    Goodman Games solicits input

Cool! This calls for a Venn diagram! Goodman has a few options, here. 1) He can try to increase the size of the group of people buying 4e products (as that circle enlarges, it will encompass more of his product) 2) He can try to expand the group of people who have heard of Goodman Games (as...

Yes, I'd certainly interpret sagging sales of 4e DCCs as an indication that the most successful adventure module line of all time had run its course and needed fundamental change. But definitely, definitely not indicative of anything to do with 4e.

    3E? 4E? PF? Trailblazer.

Yes. You can escape a grapple by either making a combat maneuver roll (usually, your BAB+STR+size) or an Escape Artist roll, either of which would be compared against the defender's Combat Maneuver Defense (Touch AC+BAB+STR+size). The Escape Artist route would replace skill ranks for BAB, and...

It is useful to remember that there are multiple markets to serve. In order of size, there's Mainstream, Customers, Repeat Customers, and then there are Evangelists (or, "true fans.") WotC does not compete for the Mainstream market. Certainly, they want to and they need to, but D&D competes...

I absolutely see it as a feature. Grappling is analogous to (but not quite as bad as) Save or Die. It's crowd control for monsters; and it forces party cooperation.

+1 easter egg for Mark. Low-light vision lets you treat shadowy illumination as normal (ie, no 20% miss chance) but it does not allow you to see in darkness (still 50% miss chance) nor does it change the range of what's considered shadowy and what's not. So if a light source sheds 20 feet of...

Back out the wizard component and you're really comparing ranger to fighter, which is a matter of taste. The ranger will certainly be looking longingly at the fighter's Expert Weapon Proficiency.

There's a short design note in there: Basically, if what you're doing doesn't require you to shift your concentration off your opponent (keep at least one eye on him) or stick something into his space, it doesn't provoke an AoO. That was my working standard going over the actions and...

Thanks for taking the time to review this. Off to read it now. Will update this post if I have any comments. EDIT: Good, fair review. No "rebuttal" forthcoming but I do have a couple of questions/comments: Can you elucidate? What additional streamlining are you looking for? Glad you...

Here's another question I have answered so often, it would behoove me to write down some boilerplate. I would answer briefly by asking what it is you want to get from your 3e game. If you consider yourself primarily a 3e fan, and you are looking for Pathfinder to "fix" your 3e game, then you...

Don't worry-- I didn't take it that way. I am not hesitant to use Open Content nor to give the sources their due. That's what it's there for: moving the best ideas forward. (It's also why 3e will be forever superior to 4e as far as I am concerned.) I think the Open Content progression...

That should surprise no one as I compiled that list of fixes over the course of about 3 years across various threads as ENworld-- including one titled "what really needed fixing?" For those who are curious to look back at the desing process, many of those threads are archived (in links) in the...

Hmmm... That must be some old Open Content, probably held over from Grim Tales (which certainly does owe a lot to Spycraft). I can't think of anything in Trailblazer that was consciously pulled from Spycraft. But you have reminded me that I really should pick up Fantasy Craft!
