    D&D 5E (2024) Final Guesses: packet 7 subclasses

I think that's because they have to really struggle to find any concept that fits the D&D wizard other than "the D&D Wizard." It's a long-standing issue that wizards in D&D are unlike any other fictional mage in pop culture, and as a result they don't really lean into any popular archetypes...

    D&D 5E (2024) Final Guesses: packet 7 subclasses

When Crawford was talking about the Warlock, he kept specifically saying "in a future playtest," whereas he said "in the next playtest" a few times. The fact that he went out of his way to use that wording makes me think the Warlock isn't going to be in #7.

Unearthed Arcana Giving Artificers The UA Warlock Spellcasting

How would that be different from full casters, though? If you're just taking (let's say) a Ranger up to level 9, you would basically end up with the same spell slots as a level 9 Druid, except with a more restrictive spell list in exchange for some martial ability.

D&D 5E (2024) What innovative elements from Baldur's Gate 3 would you like to see implimented in 2024 D&D?

I would prefer Weapon Mastery to remain in the game as at-will powers, and BG3-style Weapon Actions to also be added to the Fighter class as encounter powers, or perhaps as x/day abilities. Other classes could access them via a feat, as usual.

Unearthed Arcana Giving Artificers The UA Warlock Spellcasting

How would my suggestion be OP? Half Casters would get the same overall number of spell slots as full casters, they would just all be 5th level or lower. So, for example: Level Slots 2 2 3 3/1 4 3/2 5 3/2/1 6 4/3/1 7 4/3/1/1 8 4/3/2/1 9 4/3/2/1/1 10 4/3/3/1/1 11 4/3/3/2/1...

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Slayer ranger

I once made a Firbolg Ranger with the Fey Wanderer subclass. I didn't play it long, but it was pretty fun.

Unearthed Arcana Giving Artificers The UA Warlock Spellcasting

I honestly think all "half-casters" should get higher level slots at the same levels as full casters, but just cap them at 5th-level. I would also have them continue getting lower level slots, so while full caster progression is "tall and narrow," half-caster progression would be "short, but...

D&D 5E (2014) The skill system is one dimensional.

I always liked 4e. It was the first edition I really got invested in, and I never really understood why there was so much hate for it. Now that I've looked into older editions, it makes more sense, but I still think 4e had a lot of progressive ideas and good design choices. I think the main...

D&D 5E (2014) The skill system is one dimensional.

Perhaps have a separate perk tree for each skill that is unlocked as the skill bonus improves, and introduce a separate "perk point" system that is linked to character level. The player allocates perk points into whatever perks are open to them as desired. Each skill already has multiple use...

D&D 5E (2014) The skill system is one dimensional.

I skipped to the last page, so I don't know if this has been addressed, but I would add a series of skill "perks" that unlock when your bonus in a certain skill reaches a given level. Sort of like the Mastery perks in the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. So, for instance: Athletics 10: Your...

D&D 5E (2024) Druid metal armor restriction gone?

Oh, right, you take the beast's stats. In that case, what about adding a bonus to attack rolls in beast form equal to half-PB?

    This Worries Me a Little...

Unless he's the SJW type that views everything as "problematic," I wouldn't worry about it. If he brings it up, then you can deal with it. Or, just explain the issue to him directly and ask if it's a problem.

D&D General Druid, Ranger & Barbarian: What distinguishes the magic of the Primal classes?

Druids protect nature from civilization. They act as an intermediary between the mortal world and the spirits, conveying their will to the people, and channeling the spirits' power to punish those who earn the wrath of nature. They become the conduit of nature, and their magic flows from this...

D&D 5E (2024) Druid metal armor restriction gone?

Would an extra attack bring them in line? Or perhaps their Lunar Form at level 14 could give them 1d8 extra radiant damage on top of their Primal Strike damage?

D&D 5E (2024) Druid metal armor restriction gone?

I prefer it this way. Now the player isn't reliant on a permissive DM to have a decent AC. If the DM doesn't allow them to flavor their breastplate as non metallic for some reason, they're not forced to stick with inferior options.

D&D 5E (2024) If there are no half-elves or half-orcs will there be Tieflings (half fiends)?

The solution to Half-Elves and Half-Orcs is to just give them an actual name and remove the "Half." I know Half-Elves in Eberron have a specific name for their people, so it's not without precedent. I'm also sure that SOMEWHERE in the 50ish years of D&D lore, they've mentioned a name for the...

D&D 5E (2024) Class spell lists and pact magic are back!

I'm a fan of combined spell lists, but I understand why they're shying away from it now. It's really something that every class needs to be built around from the start to really be done right, so having it tacked on during a mid-edition update probably would cause more problems than it would...

D&D 5E (2024) How Will They Fix Warlock Spellcasting Issues?

I keep saying that they should just add a 2/day recharge mechanic on demand as a 1-minute ritual. That would solve every issue.
