D&D 5E (2024) Discipline Points or Focus Points?

I would prefer Psi Points. But if that's not an option, I'll go for Focus or Spirit points.

D&D 5E (2024) What type of ranger would your prefer for 2024?

Ranger Knacks. You have a number of special skills that are basically spells, but are totally not spells actually. You can prepare a number of spells knacks per day equal to half your level (round up) + your Wisdom modifier. Each must come from the Primal spell knack list, and be of a level no...

D&D 5E (2024) My Proposed Fix for the Fighter

Basically just the lack of out of combat utility and lack of meaningful options other than "I hit it with my weapon." Also, one issue that was brought up in another thread is the dependency on magic in higher level play. Most of the features I added are about giving Fighters things to do other...

D&D 5E (2024) What type of ranger would your prefer for 2024?

I feel like the entire argument that's been dominating this thread can be resolved by just: A) Let Rangers cast spells without any components. B) Give them the Rogue's Reliable Talent feature. Or, barring that, C) Play a Fighter/Rogue, then on your character sheet, scratch out those words...

D&D 5E (2024) What type of ranger would your prefer for 2024?

A spelless wizard would just be a book nerd...

D&D 5E (2024) What type of ranger would your prefer for 2024?

One is the Animal Friendship spell, and the other is Conjure Animals. EDIT: Or just a high DC Wisdom (Animal Handling) check.

D&D 5E (2024) What type of ranger would your prefer for 2024?

The only time I've seen a martial ranger done right is 4e, and that's just because 4e actually allowed martial characters to do superhuman things without them being explicitly magical.

D&D 5E (2024) High tier Fighter − the mythic warrior

So, you want the 4th edition Fighter, basically.

D&D 5E (2024) My Proposed Fix for the Fighter

Update - Improvements to Warrior's Challenge Fighting Style - Adrenaline Rush is now a Reaction. - Added Quick Swap to Weapon Expert (idea from other thread). - Vigilant Champion changed to grant Perception Expertise. -Weapon Adept redesigned to provide Daily Powers based on Mastery...

D&D 5E (2024) My proposed fix for the Monk

In my own fictional world, the main limitations on magic are that it runs off the same fuel source as the rest of your body, so overuse of magic has the same effects as starvation. If you burn through too much mana without thinking, you pass out, and can end up with tissue damage, organ failure...

D&D 5E (2024) My proposed fix for the Monk

As far as I can tell, there's nothing in this version that necessarily prevents you from using two-handed weapons. You just don't get to use Wisdom for attack and damage rolls, and you forgo the bonus action attack in exchange for bigger damage and (I would imagine) Polearm Master support. As...

D&D 5E (2024) My Proposed Fix for the Fighter

Update - Advanced Mastery effects for Vex and Sap have been reworked for balance. - Damage Resistance from Unconquerable changed to start of next turn instead of end. - "Invincible" benefit from Ultimate Warrior now has Relentless effect instead of damage immunity.

Or just cast Invulnerability once and Acid Slash him to death.

D&D 5E (2024) My Proposed Fix for the Fighter

The Fighter Hit Points Hit Points at 1st Level: 10 + CON score Hit Points per Level: 1d10 (or 6) + CON mod Hit Dice: 1d10 per level Proficiencies Armor: Light, Medium, Heavy, Shields Weapons: Simple Weapons, Martial Weapons Tools: None Saving Throws: Strength and Constitution Skills: Choose...

D&D 5E (2024) My proposed fix for the Monk

I really don't understand the devs' insistence in such a hard distinction between unarmed strikes and weapon attacks. From my perspective, there is really no good reason not to make unarmed strikes a weapon. It would simplify so many features, and open up a ton of design space and build options...

D&D 5E (2024) My proposed fix for the Monk

Update For the sake of refocusing criticism, I have removed explicit references to Psionics. Unarmored Defense has been replaced with Natural Armor as a result of feedback. Acrobatic Movement has been altered to incorporate a suggestion from another thread.

D&D 5E (2024) My proposed fix for the Monk

I probably won't bother watching it. I don't support the idea of dragging every beloved franchise back from the dead just so we can see all of our childhood heroes get old, miserable, and outclassed by the newer generation of "Strong Female Characters" TM.

D&D 5E (2024) My proposed fix for the Monk

Agreed. In fact, I'd bring back the whole team from 4th edition: Psion = Psionic "Mage" Warmind = Psionic Warrior Ardent = Psionic Healer Monk = Psionic Skirmisher

D&D 5E (2024) My proposed fix for the Monk

With my version it's doable, since martial arts doesn't forbid you from wearing armor or a shield. Just MC into Fighter to get Heavy Armor and a Shield, dump Dex and go STR and WIS focus. You loose Unarmored Movement, but if your goal is to be a tank you're probably not going to run away anyway.

D&D 5E (2024) My proposed fix for the Monk

That's why my original version let them use Wisdom instead of Constitution to determine their hit points. Monks as/is use Dex for attacks, damage, skills, and AC, and Wisdom for AC, skills, and their Ki Save DC. Constitution is only needed for hit points, so that's where the MAD kicks in. My...
