    D&D 5E (2014) Skywrite: a weapon of mass communication/coordination

That, in itself, could be quite disheartening - especially for the army marching east with the messages appearing on the eastern skyline. Army commands can routinely lie to troops and the ability to present other messages would be powerful. Still, you "can't escape by turning your device off"...

    D&D 5E (2014) Skywrite: a weapon of mass communication/coordination

Precisely! That's how insanely powerful this spell is. In fact, I can't think of a spell that would more actively provoke the development of jurisdiction regulation of magic. Even in the non-magical sense, people can be prone to suggestion and the potential for the production of propaganda is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Skywrite: a weapon of mass communication/coordination

Yeah, it's great, but I think its limitations are mainly down to the lack of confirmation of sender identity and potential difficulty of reading cloud like words if there is a cloudy background. The spell's description states: Duration: Concentration, up to 1 day hour,( ... The words appear to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Skywrite: a weapon of mass communication/coordination

As far as I know, Skywrite is effectively the most far-reaching of AoE spells. The spell simply says that "You cause up to ten words to form in a part of the sky you can see", and that, "The words appear to be made of cloud". No direct reference is made to height but, with reference to sky and...

D&D General Do We Really Need Multiclassing?

True, but, in several cases, class progression will slow down by at least level 5.

D&D General Do We Really Need Multiclassing?

WotC needs controversy and debate. It keeps a focus on their products and keeps sales high. They say that multiclassing is optional but then often make high-level progression in a dominant class less advantageous than taking those occasional multiclass dips.

    D&D General Levels of Mastery

The way I'm thinking to run it would be to let 5e characters invest a proficiency into a skill multiple times. Proficient = 1 allocation of a proficiency bonus for 1 times your proficiency modifier; Expert = 2 allocations of a proficiency bonus (or roguish or bardic expertise) for 2 times your...

D&D 5E (2014) What do you about dead levels in multiclassing?

Well, we could certainly interpret, if a 19th-level cardiologist took a level in golfing, that they'd suddenly be able to compete at a high level. Same as we could say that a 19th-level fighter or barbarian might find a spell book and get to cast 4d10 firebolts. (The type of people that might...

That would certainly balance out the breakage - but why did that character gain extra arcane firebolts after more martial training?

D&D General Do We Really Need Multiclassing?

I think that it's easy to sympathize with a historically unarmoured spellcaster who's got so tired of their lack of protection and resilience that they take training as a fighter for the armour and the hit points. It's less easy to sympathize if the reason for the fighter training is for being...

D&D 5E (2014) What do you about dead levels in multiclassing?

Does the player bring snacks? Is the character proportionately less powerful than the party's casters? Would the table have more fun if the martial could function as a stronger tank/smasher?
