D&D 5E (2014) Do you let PC's just *break* objects?

Fair enough. I'm sure 5e characters could find our lives to be mechanically pretty daft.

D&D 5E (2014) World Building: Tech, Magic, and Society

And how they would want to use their daily spell slots for their ~legacy. For instance, a wizard might want their 5th-level slots for scrying or legend lore for information for that book they're writing (unless they want the slots for upcasting or item creation). If they wanted to build...

D&D 5E (2014) World Building: Tech, Magic, and Society

A 20ft by 20ft provision might make a great starter base for a family home. 🤷‍♂️ However, it might still need a literal house rule to allow the making of boxes.

D&D 5E (2014) World Building: Did magic evolve?

I've always imagined the base of governing dynamics of magic to be fixed but that extents of knowledge of how to access, direct, or channel that magic that may vary over time. Perhaps something like pools of magical potential might vary in power over time or in how accessible they are, for...

I think that in some cases they were player characters in early games.

D&D 5E (2014) World Building: Did magic evolve?

I think that this view was far more consistent with earlier versions of D&D. Now, we find that as well as being a spell for wizards, fireball can also be cast by: sorcerers; fiend and genie warlocks; light domain clerics; and artillerists. I like the analogy presented by: Perhaps progress...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you let PC's just *break* objects?

I could imagine 5e characters trying to envision the lives of players and wondering how we could know about things like cholesterol levels, BMI indexes etc. Characters immersed in the worlds of D&D may be very familiar with things like level jumps, acquisition of hit points, and the trading of...

D&D General Worldbuilding: What do the mechanics of spellcasting tell us of flavor?

Would this be a good one to upcast? I like the ideas of species evolving from primitive versions. "Cave" versions of species might have found magic in the symbologies of their cave paintings and perhaps magic could have evolved from something like this. The gods of a world might be considered...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you let PC's just *break* objects?

The Greeks knew information about creatures of myth, even when there was no real information. I don't see that a trading farmer should have to remain ignorant of a creature with the notability of a beholder, though that's feasible.

How does its durability compare with other walls? "The wall is an object made of stone that can be damaged and thus breached. Each panel has AC 15 and 30 hit points per inch of thickness. Reducing a panel to 0 hit points destroys it and might cause connected panels to collapse at the DM's...

D&D 5E (2014) Worldbuilding: destruction and siege via Mold Earth?

Perhaps the unskilled laborers' efforts may be best channeled into loosening the earth so as to leave the druids, sorcerers, and wizards to focus on assembling it into the ramp outside the clerical stronghold.

D&D 5E (2014) Worldbuilding: destruction and siege via Mold Earth?

Likewise. I doubt that people could build a fortress on loose ground. Depending on circumstances mold earth might do better undermining some stockades or, as mentioned, for moving materials into ramps to enable an attack on larger structures.

I look out at an area of ground composed of loose earth and: My analogies were sandy dune-type material.

Mending, in 10 minutes, can do the physically impossible. Mold earth, via a 6-second action, can move a 5 ft cube of loose earth a distance of 5 ft. Both spells are pretty useless in combat - but, for utility, they might have uses.

Potting compost could cake together. Some potting compost might get stuck on the footwear and other soil might get compressed on the ground. I don't view that sand compresses to the same type of extent but others may see parallels.

I choose all the loose earth within a 5-foot cube that stretches down from the surface that I can see.
