    D&D 5E (2014) Using a Flaming Sphere while hidden

The specification for the spell merely says: "A 5-foot-diameter sphere of fire appears in an unoccupied space of your choice within range...". How is it's movement affected if you cast it in Spelljammer type space, on the astral plane or in water?

    D&D 5E (2014) Using a Flaming Sphere while hidden

hidden or not, IF the DM allows the sphere to go beyond its [initial] range. I wouldn't allow or ask for it, but there's a curious lack of a mage hand type provision. 🤷‍♂️ What happens if you cast the spell and teleport? I'd say it stays. What if you move beyond the 60ft range? Can you call it...

    D&D 5E (2014) Using a Flaming Sphere while hidden

Another way it could work, depending on DM ~response to player, might be to instruct the sphere to move to/toward a position x feet ft or east and y ft north or south from the position of the character. (Depending on DM ruling, the player may or may not know if the sphere may have previously...

D&D 5E (2014) World Building: Commerce and gold

Here's the introductory scenario for Lost Mines of Phandelver: The city of Neverwinter seemingly has an abundance of provisions that the rural community in Phandalin lacks. Regardless of this, prices in Neverwinter and Phandalin tend to be taken consistently from the lists in core rules. It's...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rary's Telepathic Bond - can some members talk privately

In fact, while casters may still be struggling to cope with higher-level spells, they could have developed increased proficiency with their lower-level spells which they might then be able to cast with increased flexibility.

    D&D 5E (2014) Rary's Telepathic Bond - can some members talk privately

The level has nothing to do with it. Prestidigitation is flexible, but that's because it's written that way.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you let PC's just *break* objects?

... and this is my time, which is appreciated. I've long wondered about the habit for, say a skilled, confident oratory performer to need to take skill checks in situations other than ill-health etc. I still think checks could apply though just for the purpose of seeing if crits are achieved.

    D&D 5E (2014) Rary's Telepathic Bond - can some members talk privately

The description says that the caster forges "a telepathic link among up to eight willing creatures of your choice within range". "Forge" doesn't sound to me like an action that produces a flexible result. The result is "psychically linking each creature to all the others for the duration". The...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rary's Telepathic Bond - can some members talk privately

It's a wizard's spell Harry, which can also be known by bards says Tasha. I'm just not sure how the int and chr dumped character who was the last to be tagged into the spell could exclude other chat group members from a private convo.

D&D General The Elemental cantrips mimicking powerful spells

My question with self reflected response was: I did not comment on the second, third, and fourth ways in which shape water can be used. I wouldn't say it supports flying/levitating ice knives, but ice knives? I don't see a problem.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you let PC's just *break* objects?

Well, that doesn't seem to me to be too controversial. It quite easily fits the standard rules for ability checks (as are inclusive of skill checks).

D&D 5E (2014) Do you let PC's just *break* objects?

I've just come back to ponder this. So would an automatic success here, say, involve a reasonably dexterous character walking across a river floor and a check becoming required for jumping across the stones (and so, perhaps, lessening a potential risk of being attacked by something that might...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you let PC's just *break* objects?

Perhaps "gave a description" could be considered as "filled a criterion", which may, in this immediate case, have been an additional hurdle. I would have thought, if anything, this might have placed an additional hurdle on the player. The character with proficiency in investigation would have...
