    D&D 5E (2014) Monsters/NPCs: Class features and feats

All the time, and usually for groups of enemies where there is one leader/officer type in charge. So I may have a group of 5 goblins, with four using the standard Goblin statblock, but the fifth is Ruktuk the Dervish , a goblin with the mobile feat and maxed out health. My players are pretty...

    D&D 5E (2014) My PC's and the Stirge Scourge

I think your rulings were fair and consistent. Sounds like it was a tough situation that rarely occurs - both rolling the max amount of enemies (8), stirges winning initiative after surprise, and the two AoE members getting downed which sound like they would have been the most effective in this...

    The Dungeon Book of Battlemaps

A friend and I back a similar product (shown on ENworld a while ago) - Immersive Battle Maps by Yarro(w?) Studios. Just used them a couple of weeks ago and the players were pretty happy when I pulled a double-page detailed map for a boss fight these are great products, and gives cool ideas for...

D&D 5E (2014) Would you play D&D if you knew there would be no combat?

I voted NO Same as many other posters - DnD is a based as a combat-focused game that is designed around resource attrition and encounters. It can and is able to run without a large focus on combat, but is more reliant on having a good DM and player group to agree on that style. For a campaign...

D&D 5E (2014) Half-Elves are taking over my game! (Or are Humans underpowered?)

I like your in-depth analysis, I went through the same sort of exercise. Came to a different conclusion, but so similar it's NBD either way :geek: I went through the races to add a bunch of subclasses and homebrew races, and even came up with a document to allow any mixed race to be chosen...

D&D 5E (2014) Half-Elves are taking over my game! (Or are Humans underpowered?)

Races all have 12 points for their traits (some of the monstrous races from Volo's do not follow this, but they also have a disclaimer saying they are not balanced. Looking at you, Yuan-Ti!). Breaking them down, it looks like the following: Variant Human: 2 different ability scores of your...

D&D 5E (2014) Oops, Players Accidentally See Solution to Exploration Challenge

I never think metagaming is an issue, but that is a whole (bunch of) other thread(s). Giving away info you want to build up to and losing tension/excitement sucks, but it's a long campaign and this seems like a bit of a more mundane exploration encounter, not an epic reveal/climax. In this case...

Survivor Core Races- DWARF WINS (in a Scottish Accent)!

    Dwarf 21 Elf 22+1 = 23 lots of options, and easy to homebrew subraces Gnome 13 - 2 = 11 nothing personal, just the least interesting mechanics+lore combo Half-elf 17 Half-Orc 8 Halfling 14 Human 18

Survivor (Non-PHB) Feats: FEY TELEPORTATION WINS!

I do think it should be opened to any race (personally I allow it), but as these are all racial feats and all limited in who can take them anyways, at least having human/half orc/half elf it is more available to more characters than something like Dragon Fear I also liked the UA Tools feats...

Bountiful Luck 3-2=1 Dragon Fear 3 Fade Away 12 Fey Teleportation 11 Prodigy 11+1=13 Prodigy open to more races, has good mechanical benefit, can easily develop from character/game arcs, and can be useful for any PC. I don’t see the hate

    D&D 5E (2014) Homebrew rules for focuses

I really like this idea, but how granular do you want this to be? Do you want each individual focus to have a specific role, which changes based on both the focus and the class? Or split them just into Offence/Defence/Support? I really like the action to get adv on Con checks and +1 DC. I may...

D&D General How Would You Do a Dragon Themed Campaign?

Have a continent separated into different regions. Each region has an Ancient Dragon of each colour either ruling it or at least prolific in that area, and the region generally reflects that. Eg. Red Dragon area is volcanic, mountainous, people are angry and greedy and aggressive. Black Dragon...

D&D 5E (2014) (5e) Homebrew Barbarian subclass: Path of the Dervish

Looking for advice/checking over on this homebrew subclass. I want to allow a Dex Barbarian to work well, and wanted to stack this on the Barbarian subclass. I looked at adding under the Monk, but decided on Barbarian and will keep it there. Thought about trying to fit it into Fighter, but...
