    Previewing the new XP system

In most games, using the "1d6 years" as part of the "cost" of learning a new tradition basically makes the game pretty much a non-multiclass system other than what you pick at creation. That's too restrictive and it also stifles creative advancement saying that characters are pretty much locked...

NM, nothing to see here. Should sleep before I do things like new logins.

    Suggest your WOIN intersections

Steampunk (and similar genres like DragonMech, Iron Kingdoms, etc.) would need at least a small companion guide to cover Steampunk gear and some of the nuances of Victorian era RP, but most of the rules would be out of All 3. The sourcebook would indicate more specifics on how to blend which...

    N.O.W. Wishlist!

This is where all kinds of fan content and or 3rd party Sourcebooks/Guides can come from. Either sourcebooks to "add" for a specific genre like Steam Equipment for Steampunk while using Magic from OLD as well as guides that show how to mix the "genres" to make new ones such as... * Buffy...

    Skills and Tiers

I can see the argument here. I too think that 1 Grade in a skill per tier might be a bit too restrictive. However, as i mentioned in another thread, a possible medium ground here might be to allow certain traditions only a certain skill or small group of skills to be advanced as "Grade = Tier +...

    N.O.W. Wishlist!

It's a shame. Looks like we're not going to hit this one. It would have been the most complete genre game I long time. /sad

    Tradition Balance

Two topics on Tradition Balance ATTRIBUTES IMHO, I would recommend a balance in Attribute points given out by each "group" of Traditions since we have 2 tiers - Starter/Background and Class-based tradition. Currently for instance it looks like most Starter Traditions assign a base of 4...

    Previewing the new XP system

Edited on Morrus's request to split into different topics. I've left only the specific XP related topics... For XP... I'm not certain how to handle this. Currently it will always be cheaper and more optimal to get multiple related Traditions (since more Attributes usually far outweighs Grade...

    Previewing the new XP system

I'll try to spend some time in looking at the specific numbers. While I like the concept of the XP system, I think the numbers need some review. Regardless of whether or not you increase the special abilities in any give. Tradition, the fact remains that in almost all cases picking up a. Ew...

    Previewing the new XP system

I just had to point out that I think this is still a major flaw that needs to be addressed. I think there should be more, not less, incentive to follow your already chosen Traditions than to just start heaping on 1 rank in many more Traditions.

    OLD Guns

Personally, I don't feel guns should range that much in damage, especially under this system's mechanics. In reality, the difference between pistols and rifles should be range and possibly penetration (if talking N.O.W. firearms). For black powder weapons, range is really the only difference...

    Linguistics / Languages

I've been thinking about this myself as its an important topic for my game world where there is no classic D&D "Common" but the languages are more like real languages. I like the start for this. As it stands I can see the system as easily adaptable to modify the necessary skill checks for...

A couple rhetorical questions about spellcasting

It still seems very "off" to me. Even assuming that a caster "may" have more dice to make the check it still seems very imbalanced toward the non-caster. I may have to do some sample math to check this.

A couple rhetorical questions about spellcasting

Ok, a few thoughts... p107 of the current play-test Doc "Anybody Can Cast Spells" should remain in tact. I think that the only way someone without at least MAG 1 should only be able to cast a spell using something that has the necessary magic already imbued into it (scroll, wand, etc.)...
