Also, this is not true. Supposing that one did move over straight to the new OGL, the OGL in the leaked documents does away with the concept of "open gaming content." As you probably know, open gaming content is a repository of gaming information that began with the 3.0 SRD, and has been built...

D&D 5E (2024) RPG Evolution: The Art of the Apology

I think you're missing a very important detail here. People weren't falling over themselves to join the OGL at the time of its release. To make joining the OGL persuasive, it was advertised, and they promised, to be permanently free and irrevocable. That was one of the terms of the contract. And...

I think you are right about this. That said, I think @talien is doing right by the community to offer a generous analysis. We can see the value of this because we can see the statement is only barely acceptable using the most conservative, generous interpretation. (By any other measure they are...

D&D 5E (2024) RPG Evolution: The Art of the Apology

You may not want to say WotC/Hasbro was doing psychological abuse, but I will. I think gaslighting was the perfect word to use. (We know "just a draft" is a lie because the leaks are confirmed by WotC as real, and the "drafts" are not presented as drafts--they came with contracts and NDAs...

D&D 5E (2024) RPG Evolution: The Art of the Apology

To be told a lie with the expectation that the lie will be accepted as reality--over and against your own observations--is a form of gaslighting. WotC is blatantly gaslighting the public. To tell a lie publicly so that the people who believe it will retaliate against the truth-teller for you is...

D&D 5E (2024) RPG Evolution: The Art of the Apology

This is something they teach us in chaplaincy training: to use "neutral language." That is, you just say what is true and you do not try to spin it one way or another. You don't cause harm with your words, yet you don't try to people-please either. You stick to the facts.

Has Anyone Listened to the Opening Arguments Podcast on the Gizmodo coverage?

Indeed --- it appears that a general lack of public knowledge of this situation presents WotC with a first-striker advantage. By which I mean, if they present their new "OGL" as being a baseline contract, people unfamiliar with the history of the matter will look at it and presume it is...

    OGL 1.1 Phone Campaign

Made my call, predictably got a voicemail. (WotC customer service line tries to divert like 90% of calls to email.)

    OGL 1.1 Fact Sheet

Hi friends, in light of the news on the Battle Zoo leak of OGL 1.1, I decided to put together a fact sheet of the content of that document. It is helpful if you want to review the information over the course of 3 pages instead of having to read all 15 pages...

    Battlezoo Shares The OGL v1.1

I have compiled a fact-sheet on the OGL 1.1 in case anybody would like to read 3 pages instead of 15. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qVulSOQXsktFTl2Mbh2_Rjgr2r3P51jZZbf4uXhQ0c0/edit?usp=sharing

    OGL 1.1 Phone Campaign

OPs didn't shake anybody up. They have issued and communicated civil calls to nonviolent direct action. If anybody has shaken anybody up, it is not this initiative. @HammerMan I see you posting in this thread a lot, and I think that the reason you are bordering on spam is because you don't want...

    OGL 1.1 Phone Campaign

Remember that non-violent direct action necessarily precludes harassment. Do what is reasonable and right for you to do as an individual, and as a group, disrupt. There is no reason for anyone on a phone zap to be anything less than polite. Cause no harm.

New OGL - what would be acceptable? (+)

Besides the terms of the OGL 1.0b, WotC must also restore legacy information on the OGL to their website, including the FAQ and the SRDs for 3e, 3.5, and 5e. As I understand they are being removed---and we cannot proceed in good faith as it stands.

And the OGL does specify a right to terminate. But as is said in the letter on behalf of Sad Fishe Games, The license can only be terminated in cases of IP infractions!
