    D&D 4E Another possible influence on 4e - CCGs

I think one of the really big influences which is hard to overlook once you see it is soccer or non-American football. Defenders, strikers, marking, how soccer players have 'roles', how some midfielders set up strikers and some other midfielders make it difficult to get plays working, etc...

    D&D 4E Edition Experience - Did/Do You Play 4th Edition D&D? How Was/Is it?

We TPK'd twice the first two times we played it.

    D&D 4E Edition Experience - Did/Do You Play 4th Edition D&D? How Was/Is it?

Honestly, I think 4e's the most lethal edition for a certain group of DMs. Namely ones who hate random, pointless death, but if a player repeatedly does stupid acts in combat and gets some bad die rolls... I have a lot of problems killing a PC from a random bad save. But that wizard who moved...

    D&D 4E Edition Experience - Did/Do You Play 4th Edition D&D? How Was/Is it?

Yeah, as someone who was playing since 1980, 4e solved a whole bunch of problems for me, some of which I never even realized existed. And I find it hard to play 5e which reintroduced many of them. I think the contingent of AD&D players+who don't particularly like Vancian spell casters/like...

    D&D 4E Am I crazy? I've just gotten a hankering to play 4e again...

There's a big R20 Living 4e campaign with over 100 players in it. So 4e works in it.

There's also a server for a roll20 4e 'Living Campaign' style game accessible from there, run with Discord voice+roll20 grids. Usually about 1-2 4e games per day on average with concentrated on weekends.

AD&D 1E What are examples of "gotchya" encounters from Gary Gygax?

Of course. An underrated part of classic AD&D Rogue is doing stupid things like that. Because they couldn't really do anything else.

AD&D 1E What are examples of "gotchya" encounters from Gary Gygax?

There was an illusionary wall in a very old RPGA tournament mod. Parties figured this out pretty quickly. The winning team was the one who used a 10' pole to realize that there was a spiked pit behind it and therefore didn't die. Fastest end to a tournament adventure ever...

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

18-25 year olds are the gold standard for getting people locked into using a particular product. Because they will eventually have spending money.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is expertise badly designed?

Ok...not sure why you think generic boilerplate that could apply to any game system, including any other edition of D&D overcomes the direct explicit parts of Bounded Accuracy where they say level-based numerical bonuses to everyone's to-hit score, PCs and monsters, such as Proficiency won't exist?

    D&D 5E (2014) Is expertise badly designed?

Exactly what would I be quoting other than the original article? Bounded Accuracy's core concept is again, "Since target numbers (DCs for checks, AC, and so on) and monster accuracy don't scale with level, X happens". Bonuses might specifically increase, but not globally. Proficiency is a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is expertise badly designed?

1: Bounded Accuracy isn't actually a thing in 5e. 5e uses 4e/2 math. Except when it doesn't and then things function really poorly. 2: There's nothing particularly wrong with Expertise at low levels. The issue shows up at higher levels where Rogue's Reliable Talent means that something that...

D&D General Variation on Themes(by MwaO)

Just rated it. I think it is somewhere around black due to the feature(free action invisibility on round 1 for a lot of builds is useful) and the D5. And then didn't give it Gold for the specific build simply because you can only make one free action attack on your turn. At a certain point(3...

D&D 4E Get WotC 4e's Online Character Builder to work or get a sub

It is reasonably well organized though and people are generally friendly and nice. And a high percentage of people who are either introverts or used to being around introverts, so not usually that bad. Most of the people joining right now do something along the lines of this: Join Get asked why...

D&D 4E Get WotC 4e's Online Character Builder to work or get a sub

I'm going to write something up for basic details about how to do virtualbox+Win10, so everyone knows how to do that. Was on bad wifi for a week, but will likely do tomorrow.
