Hard to know exactly without access to how they're using the data, but... Seems better. They at least ask 1st edition played and have email addresses. They should ask favorite edition & classes in every playtest. Get that baseline going. If my email address on the playtest survey about Rangers...

Right. I'm saying their survey structure wasn't even designed to determine that.

Yeah, you need to establish who is being truthful, what percentages belong to which groups, and if you're testing for something very specific, that you're actually valuing people who truly care about that specific thing over everyone else. None of which WotC did in their poll design in Next.

Just one thing I'd note about the data they're using. They had really horrifically bad survey design in multiple ways. You can see the outcome in Ranger, which the October 2013 showed people were generally really happy with the Ranger. Really, surveys need to establish baselines. Who is taking...

Also, treasure troves are insanely high amounts of gold post level 4 and there's no default spot to spend gold except on healing potions. 30000 gold —11-16 average treasure trove = 600 potions of healing... To use 2nd wind as a specific example, 2nd wind is almost always an emergency healing...

D&D General Variation on Themes(by MwaO)

Included link to Variation on Themes handbook — a Leader theme added to a set of Leader steps can be helpful as an example.

D&D 4E The Book of Five Traditions: A 4e Monk Handbook

Updated Dance of the Stinging Hornet to point out how 4e uses the same basic language elsewhere in other powers and monsters, specifically Invigorating Stride and a couple of Green Dragons to 'use not-melee-basic-standard-action' as part of a power with an undefined action.

    D&D 4E 4e ask a simple question, get a simple answer

In general, PCs should average about Level+15 AC and Level+13 in the NADs. Defenders tend to be Level+17 & 14 in the NADs(often an extra +1 to NADs and then Heavy Shield equivalent for +2 AC/Ref) Here's a link to the 4e Discord — info is much faster there and there are about 3000 people on it...

    D&D 4E 4e ask a simple question, get a simple answer

Masterwork bonus is part of the armor bonus(Plate is +8 as an example at 1st, +14 at 30th). Defenses should go up by +1 per level. Level/2+Enhancement +6 = +21, which is not +29. Neither is Level/2+Enhancement +6+4(Dex or Int+8/2) = +25. So for whatever reasons, if you look on page 345 of Heroes...

    D&D 4E 4e ask a simple question, get a simple answer

Inherent bonuses are essentially the enhancement bonus. And they're a little unclear about this, but if you have a +3 Magic Armor, it should be by definition masterwork. And that just means it is some free bonus to keep the math correct. As an example, a level 16 Fighter who normally wears...

D&D 4E 4e Poachable Powers List: A list of good powers to poach from other classes

I'd view it as a Sky Blue. It might very well be a Gold Power from a Warlord standpoint, but it still isn't powerful enough to make everyone into a Warlord by itself. Particularly in the other combats of the day.

D&D 4E 4e Poachable Powers List: A list of good powers to poach from other classes

Noted Arms of Hadar as purple. In combo with Mirror Darkly, essentially a pseudo-area attack spell for Con Warlocks. It might be tricky for some PCs to use though. Yes, will note the heresy — Arms of Hadar and Elder Constellation are both reasonably decent Con Warlock powers and in combo with...

D&D 4E 4e Poachable Powers List: A list of good powers to poach from other classes

Added Order Adept theme — great for poaching Wizard utility powers of any level. The compendium was incorrect at some point. Also, just as a general reminder, black is not a low rating. It is a rating that the power is likely outstanding — but corner-case if you want to poach it with an MC feat...

    D&D 5E (2014) Best investigator builds

My 5e PC is a Half-Elf Rogue 1/Cleric of Knowledge 1/Warlock 8 — 4 sets of Expertise by 2nd level, tons of skills trained, lots of useful at-will options from invocations, access to Guidance. I cast Invisibility on the whole 3 person party, Fly, etc... For reasons, I'm not a Book GOO Warlock...

    D&D General Why is D&D 4E a "tactical" game?

If you play any kind of competitive sport at a high level of play, the way that players react to much better players is usually wildly different than how they play someone worse than them. In a beginning fencing class I took in college, I walked through the entire class without even breaking a...
