I'm not familiar with the notion of "modified" Basic but I definitely prefer the attribute bonus/penalty distribution from Basic/Expert editions of D&D to those of AD&D as well as all WotC editions.

I wonder how many groups ever had a long running Gamma World campaign. GW was always a "let's take a one session break from D&D" game for our group. It never really felt like it would support a satisfying long term campaign. I'm sure that there must be someone out there who played GW in a long...

I haven't liked any version of WotC D&D. 3E? Nope. 4E? Nope. 5E? Nope. Three strikes and you're out. They've had 20+ years to make a version of D&D I would actually like and have failed to do so. I see no reason to believe they will "get it right" (for me) with the next (non) edition.

Why? Does anyone actually want to see more of these (bad) movies? :confused:

I can't claim this as something I made up myself, but I will often invoke the phrase, "Son of a biscuit!" when frustrated. I heard someone use this phrase repeatedly at work a long time ago (presumably rather than saying "Son of a (female dog)" and it always struck me as an amusing way to curse...

Agreed. Of the many things I dislike about 5E, the "One Proficiency Bonus to Rule Them All" paradigm is right up at the top of the list. I would have had three categories for proficiency advancement: Combat, Magic and Skills.

Assassin should never have been a class in the first place (shakes fist at EGG). A character whose entire premise is killing for pay should only be an NPC. Why would such a character ever go on adventures whose primary purpose wasn't to assassinate a specific individual? (That last point also...

I have long been a proponent of having damage work thusly: a weapon has a fixed damage value, for example, let us say that a normal sword (i.e. a longsword) has a damage value of three points the damage a weapon does is increased by the value the attack roll exceeds the minimum value required...

I echo this sentiment whole heartedly. Combat is where martials are supposed to shine; while casters can play a role in combat their opportunity for center stage should be outside of combat. Unfortunately, the game has shifted so heavily to emphasize combat that everyone (understandably)...

I cannot believe that I never noticed that there is a giant spider in the tree on the AD&D Monster Manual. I must have looked at that cover hundreds of times and only noticed the spider today.

Never played either system. I do know that Traveler's character creation system is...unique. As in, "Hey, I just died in character creation" unique. ;) Runequest is the one that anthropomorphic ducks as a player race, correct? Hard pass.
