D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

Then break the rules. Ignore them. Reinvent them (along with your DM if you're playing, or establish the reinterpretation/reinvention for the group if you're DM'ing). Doing so is a pretty common thing among all groups I've ever played or run in the 30 years I've been playing. If the group...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder 1.5 rumblings: Corefinder

For me, it's strongly an appreciation for the aesthetic presentation. I like how it's organized, find it very easy to read and follow, the quality of the materials (since I bought physical copies and not digital ones) used to make it feels good and seems pretty durable (no falling out pages...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder 1.5 rumblings: Corefinder

Nothing specific, it just struck me as an all-around exceptionally well done product. I also have a fondness for OA-styled adventures since some of my favourite gaming moments occurred during a 1e/2e D&D OA game back around 98/99, so it obviously checked some nostalgic boxes for me as well...

D&D 5E (2014) Brainstorm - stories to tell with WotC's new position on various folk (fka "race")

And then a goblin survivor comes to the surface to hire any adventurers willing to stop the creature preying on the brains of the goblins. The goblins are desperate and willing to stop their banditry and illegal activities in exchange for help and are willing to work and maintain the sewer...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder 1.5 rumblings: Corefinder

I've certainly found them to be. I generally don't use adventure products, but every once in a while I'll check one out. I picked up the Jade Regent adventure path for PF1e (in it's entirety, I believe they were a few paths beyond it when I decided to buy it) and holy crap. It was excellent...

D&D General What are your media sources of inspiration

Pretty much anything I watch or read is an inspiration in most respects. A concept, a narrative, a character type, sometimes a setting and its trappings...then translated in some form or fashion to a medieval sword and sorcery setting and run with it. Some that pop out off the top of my...

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

None specifically. Simply that what begins nobly and righteous oft times takes on a life of its own or becomes distracted, and loses its way, eventually becoming what it was never meant to be, and possibly undermining the great change it was attempting to make. I'm not remotely suggesting...

    D&D 5E (2014) Icewind Dale Dice

Looks nice, though I prefer and use gem dice exclusively. I just find gem dice so much more aesthetically pleasing. Kinda hard to tell with these...the d4 kinda looks like a gem die...but that might just be an effect of light reflecting on the solid surface.

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

I can't even begin to, nor would I remotely suggest I even have the capacity to do so on such a scale. Do I object outright to an additional pair of editorial eyes? Not in the least. Exploring better ways to approach staple mechanics that offer a more inclusive method that abandon...

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

I'd say it's entirely likely it's to protect their bottom line. Much of what is transpiring within media and marketed product is, I suspect (but do not know) happening to protect the product's marketability. I find some of the changes make a great deal of sense (like a certain pancake syrup...

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

A well-reasoned and certainly competent argument, and absolutely a valid view of alignment and its utility (or lack thereof). Myself, I don't use alignment as much of an absolute when it comes to certain actions within a specific context. I use it as a general guide to roleplay, not a...

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

My point missed completely. Ah well, interesting discussion nonetheless.

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

We do have some already, at least as far as dragons and undead go. Metallic and gem dragons. Baelnorns are undead elven liches that are not evil. Exploring concepts of variants of established evil monsters, like good red dragons and evil silver dragons...hell, I've already done as much in...

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

And who decides what feelings necessitate change, and how many have to have said feeling to justify it? Basically, who decides who gets to be the morality and feelings police? What body governs that? Do we, as a community, force change upon another community, because our community feels upset...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

Ideological synchronicity. This will not end well. It never does.

D&D 5E (2014) What kind of planar book do you hope for?

I don't hope for anything inparticular with a planar book. I've never found planar stuff all that compelling to be honest (adventuring-wise) and find the descriptions offered in the various PHBs/DMGs sufficient. That being said, I do enjoy reading about the various planes and how they're...

D&D 5E (2014) People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

I applaud their continued attempts to get something that feels "right enough" for their audience (wish they could show that kind of devotion to the Ranger, but c'est la vie). My gut tells me a psionic class, if they decide to go back to that concept, would be something like a bard/warlock mix...

D&D General New Baldur's Gate III Teaser Trailer

That did not instill hype and/or excitement for me. The spell effects were horrendous and that statue fall was laughably (and cringey) bad. I get this is early stuff and will doubtlessly improve....but yeesh. I'll credit them for showing something honest though.

    D&D 5E (2014) Where to Now?

I mean to each their own, but it's more than just handwaving for my group. It's turning minutae into something palatable. Naturally every table and game has its own preferences, focuses and what brings it and its individuals fun and joy, but we find that particular aspect of the game ("pillar"...

    D&D 5E (2014) Where to Now?

Well the beauty is, both of our visions (and that of others) can be expressed quite simply via subclasses in a redesigned Ranger. Yoink the spellcasting from the base class and include it as part of a subclass (or subclasses if more than one fits with spells). One subclass can represent the...
