Level Up (A5E) [+] What features should a "Advanced 5E" have?

Well that satisfies my curiosity. Thanks. :)

Level Up (A5E) [+] What features should a "Advanced 5E" have?

I seem to recall them having these in past editions. I recall the Agathinons being the NG celestials...and I believe the CG good ones were Eladrins (before 4e turned them into an elven subrace). I don't recall all that much being done with them besides their entries in the various monster...

Level Up (A5E) [+] What features should a "Advanced 5E" have?

A lot of it is, certainly. I'm more just curious why one wouldn't just play 3.x/PF if they were seeking those things, rather than trying to make 5e into 3.x/PF. It's not like there's a dearth of material available for the 3.x/PF rulesets that isn't still easy to come by. I mean sure, new and...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Spirits Bard and Undeath Warlock

I just play with people with similar interests. It's pretty easy for me. I just ask about what types of characters they like to play (which pretty much any D&D gamer is happy to talk about). If I hear more about mechanics and stats and statistical analysis and synergies, I know I'm not likely...

Level Up (A5E) [+] What features should a "Advanced 5E" have?

I'd love something like that, though with a lot more design scrutiny and playtesting than there was for the 2e offerings, as some of the things you could achieve via Skills & Powers and its companion volume, Spells & Magic, are bonkers (mainly Spells & Magic....I mean, you think 3.x Clerics are...

Level Up (A5E) [+] What features should a "Advanced 5E" have?

    Erm....isn't....isn't that just 3.x/PF??

Level Up (A5E) [+] What features should a "Advanced 5E" have?

    1) A skill proficiency system attached to level progression. By that I mean simply a means to gain proficiency with new skills and/or tools as one levels up (let the class dictate starting skill/tool prof pools, and those acquired via subclass remain the same...merely a means to learn more, and...

D&D 5E (2014) Experimental Concentration Spell Stacking Houserule

I've been toying with outright eliminating concentration on some spells altogether. Spells like Web, Wall of X spells, Cloudkill, etc. I haven't gone there yet, it's merely a thought experiment at present. Generally things that are, more or less, "fire and forget" (or create some sort of...

D&D General Did D&D Die with TSR?

Indeed I did misunderstand. Many thanks for the clarification. :)

D&D General Did D&D Die with TSR?

The best way to deal with such things (other than let the mods handle it) is to just ignore it. Engaging with it only serves to validate it as something worthwhile, despite any attempt at repudiating it. Engaging nonsense only ensnares you in the nonsense. :)

D&D General Did D&D Die with TSR?

If true, I'd find it a remarkably sad state for D&D if most players and DMs see things as merely numbers on a page and not characters they can become attached to and see grow and evolve. But hey, if they're having fun, which is the entire point, then who the hell cares? :)

D&D 5E (2014) Subclass System in 5e- Too Much, Too Little, or Just Right (GOLDILOCKS POLL!)

Oh I see (and appreciate) very much WotC designing the Cleric to avoid, I'd say almost specifically, re-creating the monster that was the 3.x cleric (earlier editions as well, to be sure, but 3.x exponentially proved that reality). They've just moved it from the cleric to the bard as I see it...

D&D 5E (2024) (+) New Edition Changes for Inclusivity (discuss possibilities)

It's pretty much what I feel about it all. D&D had its Satanic Panic, this is now its Moral Panic. Not as catchy sounding, granted, but that's essentially what this is. As the Satanic Panic passed, so too will this in time. Whether D&D is in a better or worse place afterwards only time will...

    D&D 5E (2014) Synergy of a INT-based warlock

I do love the Sorcerer using CON instead. Reminds me of a spellcasting variant from, I think the 2e era...where you weren't limited to casting from spell slots or spell points, but the more you cast, the greater the toll it would take on your body (i.e. it would cause increasing damage to you...

D&D 5E (2014) Subclass System in 5e- Too Much, Too Little, or Just Right (GOLDILOCKS POLL!)

I also find there's a certain "broken record" aspect to most subclasses. Templating is great, as it allows for easier (and possibly quicker) design...but it does show a tendency to stagnation. Not destructively necessarily, just with uninspiring results. Take the Cleric. At 8th level, they...

D&D 5E (2014) Subclass System in 5e- Too Much, Too Little, or Just Right (GOLDILOCKS POLL!)

I voted "Too limiting", though I find I'm more between Too Limiting and Just Right (and could just as easily have chosen Just Right). I do enjoy the ease of access and ease of use of the subclass system in 5e, generally speaking. It gets the job done and has enough mechanical and flavour...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Spirits Bard and Undeath Warlock

Or just to have the warlock firmly indentured to the lich. "You have killed a sentient being, simply because I commanded it done. You are a murderer. Know, then, I now control your destiny. You are mine, now and for all time. Failure to heed my every command, or even my slightest whim, and you...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Spirits Bard and Undeath Warlock

I do love those ridiculous (but possible) examples. It helps remind me to not take the game too seriously at times. The mental imagery alone is incredible....seeing the undeath emo warlock, sitting astride his black steed, dual-wielding darkened steel lances with "Point" down one lance and...
