Vancian Spellcasting's Real Problem - CoDzilla

    What's a bard if not a people-person?

How much culture should be hardcoded into races?

Sure. But (and I thought I mentioned this in my post) players of other races could perhaps take feats to gain the advantage of another race's culture. For example, A human raised by dwarves might give up his "human fighter" bonuses in exchange for the "dwarven fighter" ones.

    Iconic D&D Clerics (Blog)

I think whether the two-weapon fighting ranger makes sense, or if the mace, shield, and spell cleric makes sense, is immaterial. They are archetypes that have been part of the game since the beginning, and when those things leave, it isn't D&D anymore.

    D&D 5E (2014) Levels and Spell Levels - what's your preference for 5E?

I would like to see the 3.5 higher levels compressed or pushed off into the "epic" realm, with the "sweet spot" spell levels stretched out longer.

How much culture should be hardcoded into races?

I think pathfinder's racial options from the APG should be the model of 5e races. For instance: Elves get a +1 bonus to either Dex or Int, and a -1 penalty to either Con or Str. They have low light vision. And that's it for the overall racial abilities. But where things get interesting...

    Make Race Matter

Nah. Playing against type is fun. The less pidgeonholed the races, the better, IMHO.

    Make Race Matter

I think one thing we might move away from is the idea that, say "dwarves make good fighters, but lousy sorcerers" and instead say "Dwarven fighters are like this, and dwarven sorcerers are like that." meanwhile keep the other racial bonuses to a minimum... Race/class combinations shouldn't be...

    Iconic D&D Clerics (Blog)

I think the question is more of a matter of what mechanics the system can bear. If the "Cleric" class can cover the mace-weilding, armor-wearing support character, as well as the staff-leaning, robed divine caster, then sure, why not. But if the game works better with a "Cleric" and a "Priest"...

I think you peeps are not thinking about+n swords properly!

What if we stretched out the possibilities of mundane equipment? All of those +1's, +2's, +3's are now just grades of masterworkyness. There really is no reason why a mundane weapon can't be +1 and cost appropriately.

I think you peeps are not thinking about+n swords properly!

One thought... Rather than just giving a sword a +1, what if we gave weapons a series of descriptive qualities? For example: Well-Balanced: +1 to hit Exceptionally Well-Balanced: +2 to hit Dwarven Make: +1 damage, twice as heavy Elven Make: +1 to hit, half weight Magically Sharpened: +2...
