By chance, I have that issue. Checking it out now!

    Planescape Definitive Planescape adventure

I'm looking for recommendations for a published Planescape adventure (any publisher, any edition) that exemplifies the setting. If the adventure can be transposed into another setting and still make sense, it's probably not what I'm looking for. It should be Planescape through and through and...

D&D 5E (2024) Bastion rules: every pub owner is at least 13th level

Agreed, sort of. (I don't think Shardstone was suggesting making stuff up on the spot but rather working out the details in the background. I could be wrong.) Regardless, the Bastion and the associated rewards need to be tethered to the fiction for me to accept them, but I think the system can...

D&D General If faith in yourself is enough to get power, do we need Wizards and Warlocks etc?

I contrue the bolded sentence to be telling me to chose a diferent classs rather than playing (for example) a cleric not beholden to the tenets of a divine power.

D&D General If faith in yourself is enough to get power, do we need Wizards and Warlocks etc?

You can play ANY class with or without any hook you want, as far as I’m concerned. Not sure why you care what other players do with the classes.

Can you do the view of the opposite side of the river? I want to see if my house is still there.

D&D General If faith in yourself is enough to get power, do we need Wizards and Warlocks etc?

As I see it, the sources of power for PCs are properly setting elements, and I have a strong preference for dissociating setting elements from the general rules of the game for more flexibility and customization. I'm usually a DM. In my first 5E campaign, one young player (new to D&D) at my...

D&D 5E (2014) Should martial characters be mundane or supernatural?

One more time and then I'll leave it be. By RAW, the rogue can have expertise in arcana. Also by RAW, a wizard with a low intelligence and no proficiency in arcana can cast a fireball. Hence, this interaction -- -- is completely supported by RAW. Fortunately, since you find it nonsensical...

D&D 5E (2014) Should martial characters be mundane or supernatural?

Yes, I understand your perspective on that. You claimed that CreamCloud0's example relied on homebrew. It doesn't.

D&D 5E (2014) Should martial characters be mundane or supernatural?

I thought your complaint was that the rules WotC puts out do exactly that. Rogues can get expertise in arcana, and wizards' effectiveness doesn't require even proficiency in that skill.

It’s that’s the way you play the game and it works for you, I support you.

You and I have very different ideas about what proficiency and expertise represent. To me, they represent training and education.

D&D 5E (2014) Should martial characters be mundane or supernatural?

Wizards’ spell acquisition isn’t tied to Arcana at all. A wizard without proficiency is perfectly viable. And a rogue with expertise in Arcana is not an uneducated street rat. At worst, they’re an educated street rat.

Do you love Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension?

Who is also the screenwriter, I believe!

Do you love Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension?

There's a book. Unfortunately, I can't recommend it. The author has need of a strong-handed editor, or maybe an league of editors. (The original novel, though, was quite good!)

D&D General The Importance of Verisimilitude (or "Why you don't need realism to keep it real")

I ususally do a little if that in my campaigns, but it’s never been a prominent factor. I still like the evil wizard who “bred” a line of tailless house cats via Lamarckian evolution (by routinely cutting off the tails of pregnant cats for a few generations) .
